To Hell And Back...For A $2 Part

Some of you may know that I run the pit crew for an endurance racing team. Below is a link to the story of our 2013 season. There is some significant safety info in the post that is germane to the community:

Endurance racing is a thing apart from other motorsports. It’s not a test of who can build the fastest car. It’s not a test of who is the fastest driver. What it is, is a test of fortitude, of commitment, of accountability, of leadership and of how you perform, not when things are going great, but when absolutely everything......goes absolutely wrong.

.....or use a GM style QD fitting.

Hey, we pitted across from that car a few times in the past. Awesome car.

Thanks. I wish I could be more specific on the part in question. We had a very close call and I really just don't want to see anyone get hurt.

Parts fail, this one is an issue and should be addressed by governing bodies as it is too common and potentially life threatening.

The quick short story about the team and event was a very good read tastefully done. Never give up........ever!

Wow, True. What a story that hits on a lot of levels.

They're cool cars. Ours is VERY different from any street version. The chassis is changed significantly and it's caged of course, it carries a pair of very large fuel cells, the driver sits in the center and the aero tweaks are significant. The Mendeola transaxle is a biggie too. The kits are based on a Porsche trans.

Very Well Written!!

Incredible story!! I'm glad everyone is OK and congrats on getting the car back on the track!

Hey True,

This is Aaron, I came with Darryl and his son to help out that weekend.

That truly was the most incredible experience of dedication and teamwork that I have ever been a part of. I'm glad to see the car back up and running for the season.

If you ever need help in the pits again, I would be more than happy to help.

Hi Aaron! I had no idea you were a member here! Sure wish we'd been able to do pit stops instead of rebuilding a race car.

We'll be at Buttonwillow April 5th for a 3hr. I'm 1000% sure that Richard & Yvonne would love to have you.

For the rest of ya...if you are in the Southern end of the valley, stop on by and say hello. We'll be busy, but rarely too busy to shake a hand.

novahollic 03-17-2014 07:29 PM

Yeah, I get on here occasionally, mostly to drool over some of the builds going on.

PM me Richard's contact info if you don't mind. I'm not sure if I can make it to Buttonwillow, but I'd love to come out some time and help out.

Damn True 03-17-2014 07:55 PM

Done

glassman 03-17-2014 08:59 PM

Great write up and great story True!!! Well done......

Damn True 04-03-2014 04:40 PM

Just an FYI, but we'll have the car out for at Buttonwillow this Saturday, April 5th.

If you are in the area, drop by, check it out and say hi. We'll be busy, but not too busy to shake a hand and show you the car.
