1963 Pontiac Tempest
Here is my 1963 Pontiac Tempest I'm building in my garage. This will be a pro-touring / Maxom mile car. It will have a 421 Little m block......18 degree heads....I hade this engine in my dirt modified. Probably a 700 hp engine.

Very cool cars.
Nice build Mike. |
Thanks guys.
I'm hoping to have this done for spring so I'll have lots of updates. specs as of now. 421 sbc Tremec 5 speed road course ratios moser 9-inch floater rearend Willwood brakes drilled and slotted Ridetech Coilovers coming soon. Frame designed and built by me with a full Nascar style cage. Going to start back on the firewall this weekend. I had it finished and then I decided to move the engine back 5 inches....lol......I do everything 3 times. Mike King |
 Too bad it's a sbc... I was hoping it was a 421 Pontiac! Still... VERY COOL build!!!
|
Yeah I'm not a Pontiac purist. I do have a couple pontiac 4 bangers from Tempest and a 326 but they don't have the power of this engine.......My 421 doesn't have one single Chevrolet part in it except the intake Manifold.

Should be a nice build. Something different. |

I know the 64s get more love but I love the looks of the 62/63s! Subscribed!! |
I finally got the firewall all done and the Dash all welded up.I haven't welded in the door bars yet so that I don't have to crawl over them all the time. These are not the wheels I'm going to use but they are the correct width and offset so I could check all my clearances. I'm going to buy a rotisserie this weekend and start on the body work. You can see the engine setback in these pictures. I've also decided to switch to coilovers and will be running Ridetech's newest fully adjustable coilovers.

what wheels are those if you dont mind me askin?
|
American racing torq thrust II's 18X10....... I painted the centers black and made the custom cf center caps.
|
Nice project. That motor is going to be sweet in that car. Those wheels look good on there.
|
Nice! I've always loved that bodystyle. They're like a 7/8 scale A-Body! It's killer to see one get the treatment! Great work!

I wish I had the extra money to put some rated X's on it. Sweet wheels with black centers. The only problem with building a 63 TEmpest is that they are on year only and there is no aftermarket parts. I have to build everything for it . Thats also the fun part about building it. |
That looks mean. Me likey.

Looks like a pretty solid body so hopefully you aren't having to make too much stuff from scratch but you're off to a helluva start. Keep up the good work! |
I get a chubby everytime I see our customers building cars that are faster than mine. Maybe he'll let me drive...?
|
Is the chassis jig a 2x2 square frame?
|
Bret
I guarantee you can drive this thing. It's definitely going to be a handful. Yes the chassis jig is 2X2 The bodys getting ready to come off and go onto a rotissirie. |
Finally back to work on this thing. I keep getting side tracked with other projects. I painted the underside and chassis. Time to starl slapping mud on it. I did get Rated X rushforths for it. More pics to come. I decided to put an all aluminum smallblock chevy in it now...External oil pump....421 CI.

I just did a redesign on the rear suspension to fix some squatting issues I was having. Going to Nashville next weekend to test it out. Mike |

Pics of chassis fab would be cool. Especially the rear.
What did you do with the transaxle? Arnie Beswick offered to buy mine something like ten years ago but I wouldn't have been able to move the car around! I love these cars! They have so many cool little details, like the trim under the rear window and the hideaway fuel filler. :woot: |
Fiberglass dogouse installed and splitter. Getting Tempest ready for goodguys Columbus autocross and Motorstate challenge.
