March 09 Feature: Todd Akes 69 Camaro
The March 09 Feature of the Month is Todd Akes big block 69 Camaro. It's a bad ass car that quite a few of us got a chance to check it out while in Vegas for SEMA. It has the perfect stance with with slick black paint. It definitely looks right at home under the Vegas lights. I really like the shot with the Vegas Strip in the background - if theres a picture that defines the car's attitude, it would be that one.
Thanks Todd, love the car! www.Lateral-g.net/members/akes https://lateral-g.net/members/akes/AKES_LEAD.jpg |
Just a great car and a great guy. Congratulations Todd. You have done a hell of a job! Thanks for making us look good!

Truely an exceptional 69 Camaro. Nice to see it and hear it in person at SEMA this year. Nothing like the sound of a healthy Rat motor!! Nice work Todd!!
|
Todd, congrats. Sick mother truckin 69 you have there. One of the best around and a great build detail that allowed everyone to watch.
Cheers bro! P.S. Who the hell gets bored with parts lists around here? :D |
Not only does this car look killer, it has a crisp mean sounding BBC in it. I got a chance to see and hear it at the Lateral G get-together.

My wallet doesn't think so....
|
Thanks for the info Todd and everyone.
What size and brand of tires are you running? (including side wall size) Also, what back spacing and lip size do you have? Sorry to be in your business but I am looking for the "right combination" for my '69 Bird. Thanks for your help Todd. Ron '69 Firebird, 4-speed Coupe |
 Hey Ron...how about we PM and I'm happy to help you outl.
|
Hi Todd,
When you have time please email me at [email protected]. I am looking for the right combo for my '69 Firebird. I know I have to get it right because once I buy the custom wheels there is no returning them and they are very expensive. The wheels, tires, and stance make the car and I want to make sure I do it right. Thank you for your time and help. Ron '69 Firebird, 4-speed Coupe |
Since this is a 30 day feature I thought it would make sense to post experiences here. Skipped out of work at about 1 PM today. Good buddy of mine has Thursdays off and he hasn't been in the car since the open header days. We did a nice 100 mile run out to the old Pioneer Saloon. Has to be one of the coolest old western bars in the West. In fact there are still holes in the siding from a gun fight in the early 1900's. Just a good old honky tonk wher you can swing open the double doors in the pool room and enjoy a nice day. It's a pretty nice ride out there. Took a corner in 4th pinned and just really beat the car good and hard. Ran great! I cleared out the bar when I left. I had to do a burn out to show off a little. Hell there are no cops out there! I have to get this car on the track. There is just to much peformance to be realized on the street.:D More info on the Pioneer Saloon. http://www.pioneersaloon.info/

Congrats Todd, one bad-ass car!
|
thats a sweet picture ya damn lush! lol
|
Todd,
It's so nice to see that car is no longer languishing with a tiny 307 in it and stuffed in a garage somewhere collecting dust for fear of hurting its value. Cars are meant too be driven. Your Camaro is finally living the life it deserves. I remember when I found it. That car could barely hold an idle until it warmed up because the little 2 bbl needed to be rebuilt. It stalled 3 times while I was loading it into my trailer and I had too push it the rest of the way in. Your Camaro has come a long long way and is absolutely stunning. Hats-off Todd. Cool pic in front of the saloon. I need to get my butt out west! |
Yep Very cool car, and man does it sound WICKED on the gas, when we went for that cruise during SEMA VERY cool!
 |
