Thanks for sharing -- I was "living it" while reading. I love that track!
Sorry about the broken chain... that sucks. Hope it didn't bend any valves etc. No cam spinning around and pistons pumping up and down doesn't make a very good combination! Hope it's just a chain and cover. |
Yeah dude what a high and low day! Nice recap. You are gettin fast. :unibrow:

Congratulations on making your goal on the track. Sounds like you were on your way to crushing it if the motor hadn't let go. :hail:
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but don't be surprised to find some vale carnage. Expect the worse hope for the best. |
Awesome driving, hope everything turns out ok with the motor.

The next video you see from me will be from my digital camera........taking a single jack to the gopro in front of there headquarters in Halfmoon Bay  |
Not saying your GoPro is working properly, but I've sold 50+ with very few issues. When I had an issue with my first gen camera they handled it very efficiently and sent a new camera. The menu system is complex and due to the camera's size it's challenging, especially for me because without reading glasses I can't see it.
I'd download the pdf version of the instructions and print out in 8.5 x 11 and read the key elements. Then make sure the latest firmware is loaded, reset the camera to factory defaults. You may want to set the camera to one button feature that turns it on and starts recording in the selected mode with one touch of the shutter button. They aren't perfect but they do have millions of satisfied customers and the company's rate of growth is relatively impressive. If it still isn't functioning to your satifaction I'd send it to GoPro to confirm it doesn't have a glitch. |
Mines been doing the same thing Gaetano. I tend to agree with Sieg, it's a set up thing with a timer to shut it off, I just haven't had a chance to look into it.
|
Buy a Contour GPS.... it's so much easier to use.
|
I still have the box and the directions. I set it up again just like I did when I first started using it. I'm thinking maybe something happens to them in time.....battery malfunction.....something.
It's time to step up a notch.....I want something with a remote that I can turn on in the dash area......too much of a pain to have to turn around with my belts and helmet on. I think Greg is right.....GPS is the way to go. I want to be able to see my speeds in turns, g-forces, etc |

With the Contour's Bluetooth app you can use a smart phone as your dash controller..........handy. http://contour.com/software/mobile/overview
I'm not sure what the data logging capabilities are though....their site is vague. The Contour+ may be the way to go with the external microphone and 170* field of view features. http://contour.com/products/compare_cameras |
If you want a real system get something like a Traqmate. I want one of those in the coming years.

Gaetano let me know the next time you're out on track and I'll mail my contour 1080p to you ahead of time so you can test the brand out for yourself. Like GW said it's super easy to use, especially with gloves on which is nice. The best camera you have is the camera that works!
I must say though the newest Gopro's have killer in-car video quality and external mic jack. Both are features I envy with my current Contour, but Contour ease of use has been a session-saver many times. |

Short of a higher end data collector like traqmate or VBox which do like 10Hz or 20Hz+ acquisition, the best I have come up with is to use my Ipod/Iphone and Emprum Ultimate GPS, which is an accessory that plugs into the port and takes the acquisition rate from 1Hz to 5Hz. The App to use is Harry's Laptimer which has all the tracks built in. I haven't had a track day to test all this, but I think it's the most affordable way to get full video & data logging. Camera (Contour or GoPro or other) +Iphone/Ipod touch (iphones and newer ipods can take their own video so you won't need a separate camera. Chad does this but I don't know if he has an external receiver?). +Emprum Receiver +Harrys Laptimer So it's a lot of stuff to piecemeal together... I know Asif does data overlays all the time, do you remember what he has? |

My Contour GPS does SPEED and shows location on the track so you can see all your MPH as you go round....
I use my GTechPro RR for the other data... and it is also GPS enabled and can be set up to show split times as you want. And it will track RPM's and G's etc. |

Interesting...I just finished talking with Asif and he just picked up the Traqmate but hasn't used it yet. He also recommended Smartycam. I went into the Smartycam site for a bit and so far I like what I see. |

^^^^^^^^^^^ Perfect!!
|
Duck tape fits my budget
|
Was this the same configuration Weld ran?
|
Weld ran turn 5 cyclone which is at most about 4 seconds slower.
|
So by fuzzy math he's within a second of you. Sounds like he needs to go back to Bondurant for a few more lessons. :unibrow:
|
That cant be right, if thats true I need to go to Bondurant
|
Seriously though, I can always tell where I lack after a track day and in the past been able to call out what my next times will be. From what I experienced this last time around and judging from car feel and which turns I lack in I should be able to get to 2:00 minute lap times. I'm prettty darn sure that will be the limit on 100 tw tires.
|
Greg said he ran 2:10 and you ran 2:04.9.
|
I just flipped back to his thread and he said 2:12.04(post #261). If we account for the 4 seconds at the cyclone(turn 5) then he would be 3.5 seconds slower, not to mention his car is already sorted. :unibrow:
Still a good lap time though considering the amount of wheel time he's had and still room to improve.. |
I can't wait til we are all on the same track at the same time. :woot:
|
I read a 2:10....:D
|
Yeah. My best time recorded was a 2:10
You DB's better pick up the pace.... |
