Arai, you need to start your own project thread with plenty of pics. Can't wait to follow your build

I have one going over on the Team Camaro site....but I will get one up and going here. Tomorrow I am planning on starting the lower door jamb patch panels so I can get the rockers in.

Hahaha...thanks....I think :_paranoid I have never actually done anything this extensive. I did basic paint/body work about about 15 years ago when I was in highschool......and I have always tinkered with cars, but like I said nothing ever this extensive. This is going to be a several year build....like 10-15! I usually only work on the car 1 day a week on a day off from work and in between spending time with my wife and little girl. Also I am not made of money (as most of us aren't) so my build will progress as I have the money to do what I want. I have a plan in what I want the final outcome to be....now it's just getting to that point. I could never pay someone to do what I could learn or do myself.....therefore I am going to try and do about 90% of this build. If I could ever decide on some color/wheel combo's I would pm Carter Hickman about an Artist rendering. However I am way to indecisive at this stage and it will be many many years before I get to the paint stage. My goal this year is to get all the new sheet metal back on and have a complete steel body in epoxy. My focus next year will be all the suspension and wheels. Then I will have to save for like 5 years and rob my daughter's college fund to get my motor/tranny   (If my wife heard that she would kill me!)

EvilTwin 07-03-2008 07:42 PM

I did the metal work and body work myself and a lot of detail work. I had the paint and most of the reasembly done at a shop.. I no longer had time to do it becuase of my work schedule. Doing it yourself is def the way to go!

100% single car garage built- " I still hurt" There should be a thread called injuries and scar stories during garage builds. I have one or two that will make the toughest man fall to his knees.

Guys with huge suburban garages don't count!

trapin 12-18-2008 08:29 AM

Did everything but the paint. That's why it's taken me 7 years so far.

scherp69 12-18-2008 08:56 AM

Doing everything in my garage. I'll likely get someone else to do the paint though as I'm leaning towards ghost flames. I've been working on it hard for about a year now, but slowly for the past 3.

This is my favorite of all the cars I've built because it is almost completely built from scratch in my garage. The only thing that is original Mustang is the roof, and its all been done for about 6K.

Ive been working on my '69 Chevelle in my apartment 1 car garage, while I have had one that is... I started workign on it outside. I'm 23, just out of college, and haven't had the money for a house yet. May look into renting a house in the summer.

Working in an apartment has been challenging. Im sure most of what I do is not allowed :unibrow:

I have an air compressor (plus several air tools and paint gun), 110v 90amp gassless MIG welder, and a lot of shelves, in a 10ft x 24ft garage. The air compressor is small, but loud... and hard to manage the noise of the compressor and cutoff wheel, or a grinder for that matter.

I get a lot of people stop and complement the car while I work (with the garage door open as usual). I've done everything from the engine to the bodywork (which is not done). I built the interior, rewired the entire car, and done engine work.

Mine was garage built by me with a little help at times. Bodywork & paint, some fab work was outside my skill set! I had my painted hood in the master bedroom other parts in the spare bedroom etc. As the planning & partsprogressed the garage was a cluttered mess. Right before giving the car to
the painter I had NOS quarters, tail, fenders, hood, header, valence, grill
pieces & more where ever they could go!

My woman was really cool about it.

I have built mine at home except for a couple of things that I cant do like upholstery and I also farmed out the stereo due to the upholstery working with another shop to make custom panels and speaker enclosures then having "the interior shop"(that's their actual name) cover all the panels, and the paintwas farmed out too.

It is a 6.0l with a vortech supercharger, air ride suspension with mustang II up front and a four link out back. Wheels are 18x8 with 275/40/18 out back and 17x7 with 225/45/17 up front. The rear wheel wells were messaged and it is a tight fit but it works. Interior is leather and suede with a custom 2 piece console and the trunk is boxed in hiding all the stereo and air ride goodies and covered in suede and carpet. Those are the main points. I am running my positive battery cable up to the front of the car as soon as I am done typing so back to work I go.
