View Full Version : tires and wheels for the Air Ride Air Bar w/ minitub

I have searched and can't quite find what I am looking for, so here it is.
We are planning on doing the Air Bar 4 link with QA1 coilovers and a custom fabbed minitub. Hoping to do 345s but at least 335s.
Does anyone foresee any issues with this?
Also, is a narrowed gas tank the only option with this setup?
What seems to be the consensus for backspacing on the widely-used 18x12 wheel?
thanks in advance.

Depends on how low you want the car. We have a 69 with DSE tubs that wouldnt hold a 325/30R19 because the car sits to low. are you going ot run the factory rear diff?

Well, as we speak we are working with Air Ride to make some offset bars to clear 335 / 345 tires. if you sit tight for just a little longer, maybe a week or so, we should have the first bars done and tested.

So you guys are saying don't get the standard Air Bar now as there is now way I will be able to fit 335s/345s?
Is this modded Air Bar you are referring to Frank a completely diff version of the Air Bar?
thanks

Not going to go super low... maybe 2" give or take. Forgot to say we are running a Currie 9" not narrowed.

Sounds killer. Were you forced to narrow the rear for this setup? What is your backspacing with that?
Anxious to see how your ride turns out.

hey
my car im not slamming.. its going to have no wheel gap but im not going to tuck the wheels i have..the tire MIGHT tuck but i dont want to tuck the lips.
my setup is narrowed 2.5 inches on EACH end on my Moser rear end.
the bars will have to be custom if the axle is narrowed more than 1.5 inches by side.
my cars rear will be miss fat booty..

Any update on the mod'd links to get tire/wheel clearance?
And lastly - would there be any advantage in using the swivel-type links with the G-Bar?
Thanks,
G.

Hey how come i missed this thread???
I should get cred's for this idea.... I was the one telling Bret about this problem on my 20x13" Frank sold me and my 345's htting the bar. (Thread is on here.)
I had spoken with Darren too (Ridetech) and said they should have done it like DSE's lower offset bar. I asked Frank (from DSE) about a set of lower QL bars being avail seperately for my Air bar last week.
Looks like they do listen! Mine are yet to be installed, Frank, do you think i could get an exchange or som'thing? Should i hit Bret?
Where are you guy's at with this? I'm getting there (getting back from long back problems) This is REALLY interesting.
Let us know,
Lead.

Hey Flash,
Maybe they are all on vacation...
Might want to read this meanwhile; (post #15)
http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=8247&page=2&highlight=Front+tire+clearance
It has been a subject of discussion for awhile as you can see. I really look forward to seeing what they will dish out. It sure would be better than destroying new parts...

Thanks Lead.
Not sure how I missed that thread on the subject...
I am anxious to hear about what Venomous/Frank have to say on this "adjustment".....
So, Lead, did you add the lower Quadralink bars to your Air Bar/G Bar setup??

I'm in the very same situation right now. I have the G-bar and was getting ready to order a set of tubs today.
My Moser is stock length. If I'm understanding your post correctly, you could have installed a fat tires but you narrowed your axles more than 1.5"?
While I don't need a 345 tire, it would be nice to know how wide I could go with my axle at stock width, G-bar, and a set of tubs.
Looks like we are all in the same boat.

Update,
Amir's custom bars are at his builder, but not yet been installed. I talked to the builder today and he thinks they will be just fine, but has not had time to install them.
In the meantime,
I got word today from Air Ride that the Street Challenge kit for Project EmptyNest is on the way. We will be doing a full install, story and report back directly to Air Ride about any possible interference, if any issues with big tires. We will start using the standard bars, and see what, if any, mods need to be done. We should know something in the next two weeks

Thanks for the update Frank-
do you have details/specs on the custom bars Amir has, or on this "Street Challenge" kit?
thanks

I spoke with chassisworks yesterday, they told me that when using the G-bar and DSE tubs you could run a 305 and slightly larger tire. They did say that 335 were not going to fit.
The offset shackles use the original under body mounting location, your gain for tire clearance is not much more than 1" is it?
I think the standard leaf spring is 3" wide.
The G-bar uses the stock body mount also but it's only a 1" dia bar, I think you would gain more tire clearance using the Bar over the offset shackles.

Hey everyone.
I have an announcement (kinda).
I sold all my stuff to a friend last night. (6.0L, t-56, wheels, tires, brakes and all their related hardware, etc) He does not want my airbar so its for sale. I'm going to post it in the FS thread but tought i'd let you guy's know since there might be interest from readers of this thread and i got the thread update this morning, thats what made me think of posting in here.
(If you wonder why i sold everything, i'm going back to Pro Street! I'm ordering some 15x4 w/28" front and 15x12 w/30x13.5's and a 500+ BB is searched for. I have tried to convince myself that pro touring is for me for the last 3 car builds and have ended up selling the cars because it gets to a point where my interest is so low i feel like giving up. This car, i LOVE and i don't want to let go, so it will be a triple black, caged, Bad ass Street /Strip car soon. (Show quality street/ race car)
I love Pro touring too, but i realized i just prefer the Tough/ Musclecar look and 0-150 kick. I'll still be around tough as you guy's are great.
Copy of this in open discussion is due i think...
