For now I should say, the original concept of this build is a good one and fun also, The budget has been stuck to and well documented, The idea of building the nicest car I can for 15K in parts, seemingly it has lost interest but the build goes on and getting time to pull the body back off and start with some color, It has come to light that another car being built by Kevin Oeste named "S71" http://www.v8tvshow.com/ in my eye shares to much in common for me to build the car in the spotlight of the existing rendering, Looking at the two it makes me feel that my car is shopped, and I feel that some confusion between the two cars may exist at some time, so I have decided to contract with another rendering artist to come up with a new rendering for a car thats waiting for its own identity, so for now this is how the car sits, and a welcome to Kevin for a new Olds project to come to light.

While it's obvious that the two renderings are the same the cars are very different besides the wheels. Different colors, different hood and different graphics.

A car's "personality" is not derived from something as general as what you see in an exterior rendering. It's in the execution, the drivetrain and mostly in the details.

I thought your project was super cool and the goal of building a cool car on the cheap was worth paying attention to.

Good luck with the project.

I have just chosen to stay away from Blue on this car, The new color has been picked, No disrespect to Ben or Kevin, I just want it to have its very own path, Im very confident with the fit and detail of the car, now it just needs the finish, and as far as the 15K the car is on track, actually been a fun part of the project is finding the deal, I will post up more pics of the car after paint and happy with ant questions on parts or source.

WOW, seeing those renderings just confirms I made the right decision on hiring Ben to do my artwork for Julius!!!!

Keep us posted on the project, looks like it's going to be saweeeet!!!

The only problem I see with the color change is that everyone that voted is sort of expecting a blue car. I mean we could have gone with the paint jobs Kris, Jason or Brian suggested to stay away from what Kevin is doing on V8TV.

I'll step back from this and let everyone else offer some input.

BTW....looks awesome Jeff! Great work!

Hey Guys,

Just for clarification, I contacted Ben, Scott G, and Jeff Clark about using the S-Curve rendering as a starting point for our Olds S71 project, considering that a 71 Olds already existed in Ben's stash, and he's been pretty busy these days. Scott, Ben, and Jeff all gave the thumbs-up to use it, so it became the basis for our project. (Just don't want you all to think we just stole it!)

As for S-Curve, it's a great project... and I wouldn't think you're going to lose any of it's identity by what we're doing. Our S71 is going to look damn near stock from the outside, and it's using 99% of it's stock driveline - Olds 350, Muncie 4-speed - but we're adding a single turbo and possibly a Gear Vendor. The point of our car is to show that you can build something cool and fun and still return it to stock later. We're using the stock Viking Blue and white combo, although we're changing the wheels... Ben, I have to see if we can make a change there. All the S-Curve body mods are unique to S-Curve.

Jeff, I can assure you they are two very different cars, and it seems that you're upset over this. I hope not, your car is very cool, it's got a ton of unique attributes, and I think everyone on this board likes the concept and how well you've been able to document the car and adhere to the plan and budget.

Wow! I never thought i would see the day when there were 2 Olds on here doing a similar paint colour. I can't imagine how hard it is for you camaro guys to come up with something different. I think that the viking blue from V8TV and your colour might look similar in the renderings, but the final product will be very different. I have seen lots of viking blue olds and they are very blue. Where as yours, if i am thinking of the colour correctly will be more of a greyish blue. Plus your car will have some pretty cool and unique touches like the rear exhaust. That idea is killer! I can see where your a lil ticked about the same colour idea but i would build it anyway if i was you. If you want to change the colour now i would think that was cool too. As long as it's not black n white!!!! lol. :unibrow: The car looks awesome Jeff keep up the good work and send me more pics!

With reguards to Ben and Kevin, Behind the scenes the car as stated in the rendering polls was probably going to be "blued up a bit" Ben and Kevin are both Stand Up guys with large amounts of talent, Kevins car is a ultra rare W-31 olds missing its badging, I Just feel that the actual color on S-Curve will be to close for me, One car is not a copy of the other, I just feel I want this car to stand alone 100 percent. This was brought before me before Kevins rendering was done, I gave it the OK and That gave me alot of respect for him to ask first, Im not upset or mad in any way I just feel S-Curve needs to stand alone in all forms, Its a great car and has been a fun project for me, and I hope some day it will help others that may take intrest in a budget build.

Why can't we Olds just get along:rolleyes: I couldn't resist. I think the sport is basically a copy cat game anyway. I'd consider it flattering for someone to copy your design. That let's you know you did it right. While we are on the subject of copying, I would love to copy the exhausts on mine :unibrow: . Seriously, that is a killer mod. Only with your permission though.

Not to blow this out of proportion but I'm really sorry to see stuff like this happen. I was under the impression that this was all discussed and agreed upon since we had an open line of communication going regarding the SR71 project and the use of the S-curve rendering. Had I known this would cause confusion, regrets or even a shred of disappointment by anyone I would have declined to participate.

As Steve mentioned, renderings are very general. They constantly evolve as issues arise. There are subtle cosmetic details that set S-Curve apart from SR71 or any Cutlass for that matter. The meat of S-Curve is what Jeff has been envisioning and executing all along with the build. The rendering just puts a face on it for everyone participating in the voting.

I take the relationships I have with everyone involved very seriously and hope we can move forward with both exciting projects. This is supposed to be fun.

Im fine with the use of the rendering Looking at S71 and in blue, I then decided I did not want the car Blue in any form, seems to be a quite popular color for them and I decided I wanted the car to stand completely alone in finish, Ben has done a great job and we have had great communication Im just thinking paint change is needed I have a large amount of renderings Ben shared with me kinda thinking a variance off one of them.

Yes, the first one is very nice. Do a pearl red, and you'll be set.

Goes well with the "S" Curve logo.

The first one with a black deck lid as well (ala 68 Hurst Olds) might be a neat idea.

I just realized that I forgot to change the side mirror color with the rest of the paint. DUH!
