View Full Version : If you could have any job, what would you be doing?

Opinion question:
For the longest time, I have worked for others doing the CPA thing and Controller stuff. It pays the bills, but in a lot of cases there is personal satisfaction or monetary rewards, but usually not both at the same time. Currently, the lack of personal satisfaction is outweighing the monetary rewards which were not that great to begin with.
I am contemplating a change . . . and would like to do something that both pays the bills and I would enjoy doing. I would love to do something related to the classic cars I love, but I wouldnt mind a cash cow job I could use to finance a growing P/T addiction either.
So that brings about my question: If you could have any job, or if you love what you do, what would your job be?
Hmm, since I am young I can still pretend this will actually happen:
1. CFO at Goldman Sachs or any large Wall St. finance firm.
2. Finance Advisor to a White House Administration
3. Move up to higher level cabinet, away from finance to boost a reputation.
4. TFL for President 2032!!

That would have to be between building hotrods and porn. There. I said it. Might sound dirty, but damn, both would be a lot of fun.

When I read this thread I thought "I work on hot rods and I like it". But the porn thing made me think..............

Right now, I'd have to answer : 'exactly what I'm doing right now.'
I truly love what I do, I love the people I get to work with, and I love being able to be proud of my work.

When I was young I thought about being a "Virgin converter" http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/images/smilies/biggrin1.gif.
Now I am to old for that so I settle with building racecars, which I infact did 25 years ago. Thinking of it I am pretty satisfied with my present situation.

I wouldnt change a thing. When I first came across automotive design work I knew it was perfect for me.Best of all things ,being ceative in an art sence and designing cars. Also things change quickly and offten, keeps us on our toes. The hardest thing are the people sometimes. So much of what I do is based on opinion.

My dream job would have very few humans in it! I dont meld well with people it seems. I would love to have a job somewhere like Montana in the fire service or similar. Have a large shop and a few projects going that I could sell on consignment.
The job I have now pays poverty level for the area but it suits my personality pretty well. There is no personal Satisfaction or Gratitude from the people I work for.

What would I be doing? well actually nothing would be a normal answer for many, but I love to work and would go crazy if I wasn't ever doing something. Since I am still a college student my plans are to go to work with my finance-banking degree and generate enough money to invest in realestate. I want to develop a restaurant chain one day and oversee each store personally much like regional managers would do-"can't reveal my ideas." Pretty much being a business/property owner is my main focus and that is my dream, but I will make it a reality with time. Own a farm-cows, horses, and mess with cars in my free time.
-another job I always kinda thought would be great is to be a pitching coach for a HS or College baseball program.

Having cows and horses will take up any free time you have!

yeah It can be time consuming, not for what I have in mind. Right now we have 100 head and a few horses on the parents farm here. As long as fences are good and you can use a rope it's pretty much simple work. A hobby more or less.

What I currently do! Retired from work 2 years ago at 44. Stay home, take car of my young children, vintage race, go to car shows, soccer games, golf, car cruises, the mountains and work in my shop on my cars.
Life is great!!!!! I am truly blessed!

My dream job? Sorry...when I dream, a job never enters the picture.
Sleep in everyday, get up, breakfast, surf the internet for an hour, go out to garage, work on car, eat lunch, take a nap, get some line wet out on the boat, eat dinner, roll around in sack with wife, feed the fish, grab a bag of Dorito's and veg out in front of the wide screen till I pass out around midnight.
There's MY dream life. :D
Ohh, alright.....a world class chef at my own 5-star restaurant and a cooking show on the Food Network. That would rock.

Great product. I have yet to hook up the headlight doors on my RS Camaro because I'm too busy (or lazy, or having too much fun driving) to pull my Victor Jr. intake and tap a vacuum port. Something like this would solve my problems and work it would work better to boot!
