I have autometer ultralight meters in my 67. long story short the float for the sending unit got hung up inside the tank so it was readinh 3/4 of a tank when it went dry yesterday. anyways i dropped the tank and relocated the position of the sending unit and replaced the tank. in doing so i pinched my power lead to the sending unit between the filler neck and the sleeve. now the guage is pegged out past the full mark on the guage and doesnt move at all. i have 6 volts at the sending unit but im pretty sure i should have 12 correct? did i cook the guage somehow? or does it ound like a short. any help is appreciated. thanks

Is it a GM 90 ohm style sending unit? 0 ohms is empty, 90 ohms reads as full. It sounds to me like you have an open between the sending unit and the gauge or from the tank to ground.

Take the sense wire and ground it right to the chassis and it should go to empty and you can determine if the gauge is working correctly.

Thanks for the help. that crossed my mind while i was in the shower and when i saw your post that made me go try it. there is a break or an open between where i spliced an extension of the sending unit wire and the actual sending unit. thanks for the help. now i wont be laying in bed till 1 am trying to figure that out. ive done that enough.
