View Full Version : Supercharger is in

Well the good news is that everything is going nicely at CAR. The engine, tranny and supercharger are in, and it should be fired up this coming week. Excuse the mess in the engine. I do have some bad news. I cannot use my rare zz430 valve covers due to the venting on the driver side is right under the blow off valve on the supercharger. Ill put it too you guys. What valve covers would look good on the car? And yes, I don't want to alter these covers.

you have a vent on both sides, or is that an oil fill cap on the other side? If it's not a breather switch the breather and oil cap, or swap covers side to side if necessary. If not you'll need other covers.

Hey Jody. Yeah we went though the breather/oil cap issue, and we figured out that we needed new valve covers. They could have machined these to work, but I didn't want to ruin the covers. So now I'm looking for new ones. I saw some carbon ones, what do you think?

Mike, those look just like the bowtie covers that I have. You could get a set of the tall versions, which are just what you have. The tall ones don't come with the holes for venting, so you can put the breathers/oil fill wherever you want on them. That, and you can paint/powdercoat them black or the same color as your car to make them look nice.

I was thinking of something like that. I also like the look of the carbon ones, but would not know if they would not leak. I would like to find someone who makes the custom ones.

Why would you think they would leak? Gas tanks on bikes are sometimes made with carbon and don't leak.

Hey Anthony. I think the carbon's are going to be the way to go, just have to run it by the crew first. I should hope to have video at weeks end. I know they are driving it first without the supercharger hooked up, then after so many miles they are going to hook it up. It should be done at weekend end. Ill be armed with a video camera. :unibrow:

Your car looks great. What size ProCharger is that ? Bet you can't wait to fire that up and push some boost. The CF covers would look really nice in your engine compartment. Post some video clips when you get it up and running.

Carbon ones are nice, but only if you can tie them into the car with some hints of carbon other places as well. You definetly need them to be a finish other than polish/chrome to help give your engine bay more offset (the black ones look good there now.
What about those other CHEVROLET ones? with the raised milled off letters like the ZZ572 covers? You could powder them any color you want. If you do that then powder paint the gloss black parts of the new blower (tubing parts) in a matching color. You need to keep a sense of continuity with the colors and textures.
You could also find a set of plain covers, poweder them then have them laser engraved or milled to say something specific to your enigne.
Did any of that make sense? lol

Steve, I did take that all into consideration and even though he doesn't have any other CF on the car, I felt he has enough black going onto help it work....but I do see your point, and that's one reason I haven't ordered mine.
Mike, since we're spending your money. :) How about going with an elbow and single blade TB like mine (to get rid of the black hat) and a CF intake tube like on Arts Corvette....that should tie it all in well! :)

You only need to add a couple accents. Just enough so they seem like part of the package and not a last minute addition.

Hey Guys thanks for the replys. What I might do is have the carbon fiber painted, if that's possible. Ill have to check my options on that. Steve, I agree on the colors may not matching the theme of the rest of the engine bay. I did think about the "Chevrolet" ones, but a lot of people around here have that. They do look good though.

Ok I know you love your ZZ430 so how about this?
Use the CF valve covers and paint them body color (blue), but first have a "ZZ430 or ZZ430SC" sticker made, paint the covers, and then peel the stickers to reveal that they are true cf. You could even have the lettering outlined in your silver stripe color. This could be the best of both worlds and pretty creatave at that!

This is our accessory drive. It is the first one we delivered, and Mikes shop had to spend a couple hours making some adjustments, milling a piece and some other tweaks. Apparently the production pieces were slightly different then the mock up pieces. So we have another kit now we are doing for MDProove, and are making sure the issue is solved before we ship this or any other kits.
The system looks fantastic. It uses a remote reservoir pump. Combined with custom adapters, brackets and pulleys we make. The right (passenger) side of the kit is a March mid mount set up. The left (drivers) side of the kit is all our making.
There is some minor frame crossmember notching required to fit a stock frame. Basically a C relief in the forward crossmember. And apparently on a Fatman Chassis, a sway bar spacer may be required to clear the large Blower drive. Although both these issues are present doing any blower drive.
The entire kit including complete serpentine set up with polished A/C compressor, polished alternator, polished remote PS pump, remote reservoir, P1SC ProCharger, Surge valve, etc, is just under $6,000
I will have more pics later in the week of MDProove's system, using a Holley Stealth Ram, it is going to be HOTTT!!!

Not yet, we decided to have a tranny rad for the steering pump system and to redesign the emergency brake system, and some other items. The car is coming together and should be done in about 2 weeks. It's looking bad ass. I'm REALLY impressed with the direction the car is going. It's more of a reliable race car now with the power and suspension we have in the car now. We should not have any problems once the car is done. The fab work done by CAR is awesome.

Ok some more updates. Sorry about the picture quality. I shot it in Raw form and it came out like crap. Here are the pictures and updates.
They had to change a few things. We went with a tranny cooler for the steering pump fluid, valve covers had to be changed for the breather hole locations and I didn't want to drill out the ZZ430 covers. All the fittings and everything else under the hood is going black or nickle for fittings. All the spark plug wires are being routed under the car.

Here is the fabbed up drive shaft loop. The parking brakes are being redesigned to flow down the side of the frame on one side, and should very much improve the use of it.

It's at the alignment shop as we speak, and on Tuesday or so, it goes to the dyno for it's last tuning session. I should get it back next week. Possible issue with the tranny as it hit a dead spot taking it to the trailer in reverse. Other then that the car is done. I'm also having a local photoshot of the car when it's back home so Ill have the updated pics soon.

Mike,
Chris here. Hope you are well. I have been talking with Kevin at C.A.R. a bit about your car and he said it was coming together. Your car looks great. Is your pro charger intercooled? I cannot tell as it appears the plumbing is not done yet.
I just finished doing a bit of top end work to my 68. It sports a Vortech V1- T-trim with Ice Vex air-to-air intercooler custom intake. We need to get together and run these cars. Here are a few links to some pics I took tonight.

As for my 68....I think this car is new to you. After selling the 69 I owned an 07 ZO6 for about 45 days before I realized what I wanted was another Camaro. So, I found this present car in TX. It arrived about 3 weeks ago and has been apart \ ungoing some changes in my garage since it arrived. Since Kevin \ C.A.R. was backed up I took on the work with the help of a buddy and we got it all done. Took us a while (and cost us a few busted knucles) but it is done. Mike,
Thanks for the compliments. Yea, I like this car a bit more than the 69. The 69 was a very nice car but I think it had a (very) hard life before I owned it. The net of it was the car was never quite right and would have required a pretty extensive overhaul to be better. No knock on the guy who did most of the work on the 69 (Jason at Timless Kustoms) as he is an awsome builder but I think he was given a rough car at the start.
This 68 is a fresher car and simply runs better. I am not afraid to run this car all over town for fear of overheating, tire rub, blower issues, etc.
