What a wierd day... Last night, around 10:30, the phone rang. It turns out that my wife's old college friend commited suicide last Monday. Seems she had been planning it out for a while. She got up Monday morning and went to work. Sometime that morning she told her office mates that she was going out to the corner store to get a cup of coffee. Instead, she drove to the airport (she lived in CO), flew to San Francisco, and jumped of the Golden Gate Bridge! Needless to say, my wife has been having quite a time with this. What makes someone do that? They say suicide is a cry for help, but in this case she kept it all secret. Seems to have planned it all out to cover her tracks so no one could stop her. Very strange.

Wow, that's crazy. I guess you never really know about some people...

It's often a cry for help, but for those who are serious about killing themselves, it's seen as a last exercise of control over a life which otherwise - to the suicide -feels out of control.

I'm sorry for your wife's friend, her family and everyone else her death will affect.

It's been pretty hard on Kristy as she is one of those people who is willing to talk to pretty much anybody about anything. As you all know, she has MS and thinks nothing of telling her "Bill, I peed the bed" story, among others, but this gal never tried to make contact. Seemingly, not with anyone. I think the info about the gal feeling out of control might help though. When Kristy brings it up again, I'll mention that.

Thanks!
