View Full Version : Made it to Good Guys... barely.. Penny's first time on the town.

Fixed the trans as mentioned in the other post and I band-aided the oil problem as best as I could to make the trip.
Then the alt had a problem charging. Seems "sparky" shorted out the part of the computer the triggers the alt. I know of a work around using a resistor but didn't have time. My car likes a LOT of juice to run. Anyways, we did make it to the Good Guys Del Mar show and we will recarge the battery before Sunday.
Big thanks to Best of Show Coachworks for all the help and to all those that got her on the street..
On the way to the show:

We had to cobble together an interior.. this will all be redone later but will look mostly the same:

Under the lights. This was my first indoor car show in 20 years or so. Nice to not be sweltering under the sun. She certainly will never be this clean again. lol

If anyone here is at the show be sure to say "howdy". I'm going to be there all day Saturday and Sunday :)
With this done I will have a spare second to get caught up on mailing, phone calls and emails... I'm pretty beat right now.
Simply stunning, Steve. I love that car.

What a thrash that must have been! You car is fantastic you should be proud...and very tired. Take it easy, have a beer and reflect on the journey. Come monday you can fix all the little things and drive it like a rental.
Again, what a great car...one of my all time favorites.

Look fantastic Steve - Congrats ! I love the way it looks under the lights - can't wait to see a pic of what it looks like at night out on the streets - sinister man !
Get some rest and enjoy all the feedback at the show.

Thanks guys.. it's been a long, and espensive, road but at least I get to enjoy her some now.
After the show I will trailer it back to the shop - fix the alt, add the e-brake cable. Then trailer it to my other shop and fix the oil problem.
After that I hope it's a LONG time before it ends up on a trailer again. lol
Penny isn't the nicest or most "technically perfect" car around, but she did come out nice. I hope what makes her stand out from all the other sweet rides is how much (and how hard) she is driven. I'm not particuarly easy on cars, but I do keep them clean. This will be my "done" car and my magazine project cars (like the Fairlane) will still let me wrench and build stuff (putting a 9-inch in the Fairlane on Monday).
Anyways, if you're at the show be sure to say hello. Should be a nice, and beer filled, weekend :D

I can honestly say that I very rarely post on here (just a lurker) but that is by far one of the sweetest 68s I have ever seen.. Absolutely stunning.:wow: :hail:

Steve,
You make it look so easy
Bah!!!!! But the end result is nutso cool. Just back from the show, and my goodness, the car is amazing. In the main hall to boot, rightfully so, and showing extremely well amongst all the other cars. I worked on this car a lot other the last several months, and have seen the progression, but I'm stunned at how the car finally came out. It's *that* good. 'course, the rear suspension helps a lot -cough-, had to do the shameless plug, but the car is super-duper. No question, no quarter asked, no quarter given. Er, I guess that should be "Penny" rather than quarter?
GO TO THE SHOW!!!!!!

Steve,
I got to see your car today (and chat with you a bit about some of the products that you've used on your car. . .the young guy with all the tattoos on his arms) and I just wanted to thank you again for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me! The car looks awesome!!! Good luck on the little things you said you still had to work on!

Saw Penny at the show. She looked great. Stunning. Judging by the crowds around it, it was a magnet.
I just sent you an email, Steve but thought I'd follow it up with this to get some support from the guys.
What about doing an article about the conquest of finishing the car up in the nick of time to make it to a great show and then surround the rest of the story with pictures of Penny and some of the other great cars there. It would be like the old days of 15 pages of Super Nat's coverage but with tasteful cars...haha But really, it would make a cool read about your story, a nice review of the show, and a bunch of pics of a lot of cool cars.
Just an idea but I'd read that article!

Only one word to describe it! Dope!
Congrats! Rodger saw your car and said as much as he wanted to get back to his car he couldn't stop looking at it! and all the details that make it what it is! Wish I could've made it to the show!:(

The rear bumpers corners look wrong, but it is not your car, it is all of them. I hate how they point down. I don't what the big deal is, it looks like it did when you bought it. I loved that car before you fixed it, or owned it. :hail: :hail:
