I am about to order some wheels for my chevelle. I need to know the front and rear backspacing numbers for a 10 inch wheel in the back and 8 and 8.5 fronts. This is on a 70 chevelle.

10" in back will need 5.5" backspace. An 8" front will need 4" and 8.5" will need 4.25" to get as much out of it as possible.

Thanks...

Do you see any problems running those sizes? I want to run a 305 tire in the rear and hopefully not cut too much.

I run a 315 in the rear on 11" rims in my 71...same car.

I would go 9" in the front to fit the 275 tires, and the rear I would use the rim that fits the tire you need. More power need a wider tire.

What backspacing would be needed for the 9" wheel up front with a 275?

Do you think a 68 chevelle would have the same backspacing measurements since it is essentially the same body?

About a 4.5" would work, but you really need to measure, every car can vary up to 1/2" depending on body placement.

I will be running either a 10 or 10.5 rim in the back with a 305 tire. The front I only plan to run a 8.5 with a 255 or 265 tire. On the 10.5 rim what backspace would i want.

I ran 17X9.5 up front with 5.5"back space and 17X11 with 6"back space. To fit 275's on 9" or better up front and any kind of lowered stance will require removal of the inner fenders. 315's will require significant rolling and reshaping of the outer fenders.

To those who say they fit without sheetmetal work...you obviously are way too high, try lowering it some more and see how they fit.

My car will be equiped with air ride front and rear. I will only be running a 8.5 wheel up front, and either a 255 or 265 tire.

The rear is going to be a 22x10.5 and running a 305/25/22 tire.

Anyone have some dead on backspaces to make this work?
