I was able to make some progress on my fastback recently. I'm still doing some exploratory surgery, but so far so good. So far, the only major rust is under what used to be the battery tray. Most of the problem spots for mustangs are in great shape:

The cowl side panels look great, I'm still gonna cut the top panel off just to check down inside:

I still have to disassemble the doors, remove the wiring harness, fuel/brake lines, and a few misc. parts then she'll be ready for media blasting.

Yeah, it was originally a 200ci six cylinder w/ a C4 and an 8" rear. A 427w with a Keisler TKO600 and a Currie 9" are replacing it.

You may be right to worry, there isn't many ford or mopar guys on this site. You would have gotten more replies if you would've titled your post "Check out my 69 Camaro project"...just kidding. Im a Mopar guy, but i like seeing all kinds of other car makes and models. Im in the process of taking my car apart and have recently taken out my front and rear suspension on my 64 dart GT convertible. Looks like you've been as bizzy as i have. Your car looks pretty solid, what are you gonna do with it?

I think you'd be surprised. Mustangs tend to hold up pretty well, although they do have problem areas. F-bodies are probably the worst I've seen. A lot of Camaro guys on here replace a lot of metal!

Kevin, I saw your car in PHR. I have a folder on my computer with all my project info and pictures. I have to admit that I have all of the interior photos of your coupe as the inspiration for my fastback:D I love it; black, clean, and functional. Don't worry, I'm gonna change it up a bit! Although, I always tend to slide out of the stock seats in my coupe, so I'm gonna get some aftermarket seats covered to replicate the original upholstery for my fastback.

First post! I'm a diehard ford guy! Looks like a nice start for a project, won't have a ton of metal work to get the project rolling from the start! I'm currently in the military (separating in 6 weeks) but planning a project just like yours. I am going to build up a 67 or 68 fastback. I have the image of the car in my head and nobody is getting it! haha I'm on my way to Iraq for a year starting in june and then the project will begin. I look forward to following this build to see how she turns out and if you come up on any snags.
That's a nice looking coupe! What do you run for suspension?

Well I didnt start out a Ford guy, but a great deal on a 1969 Vert changed my mind. I follow all the Ford threads looking for inspiration for the day I start my teardown.
Til then I have some tread to wear out on those tires :burnout:
