Anyone run propane on the g machine?

upsides- much cleaner burning, a complete propane setup can be had for under 1000 dollars, can have inline sensors for low fuel, handle angles/cornering forces as good as EFI. and i can get a damn large tank, for a good cruising distance. allows higher compression ratios, propane is equivalent to above 100 octane, i could run 11:1 compression easy.


Downsides- obviously filling stations. also, from the looks of it, i might have to run two mixers to keep up with my fuel demands, but i can get a 2 carb intake for my cadillac, so no big deal.



I am considering running my cutlass on propane right now, with the cadillac big block. im a weird one, i know :unibrow: . does anyone see any downside's besides the aforementioned? i have allready looked into the legal aspect, i can even apply for reduced emmisions discounts in my area, with a propane conversion!! :thumbsup:

When I spent some time down in Australia, I noticed that there were a lot of hot rods and pro street cars that ran the "sausage fuel". Even daily drivers were converted since it was a lot cheaper than regular gasoline.

Here, I know it is popular with the 4x4 and rock crawler crowd since it eliminates the problem of carbs running at extreme angles and fuel starvation.

It definitely can be done, but do the pro's beat out the con's?


Upside is you can mount a BBQ on the bumper and you've already got the fuel source!

I ran a dual fuel system and am now converting to 100% LPG (butane/propane mixture) since it is readily available here. It is cheap too and indeed has a high octane number, so high compression is a +.
(10.5:1 for me)
It is very common overhere and I would say about 1/2 the US classic cars here run it.

I was a mechanic on a farm for years. We installed propane on about 75 pickups and trucks. Worked great and the engines were always clean but they had much less power. Alot less heat value in propane.

How would mpg compare between the two? Sounds like propane would be less.

from what i hear from my off roadin buddies, the tanks are MUCH more durable that a regular gas tank. i do think the pro's outweigh the cons IMHO, cool to see it workin in the netherlands :thumbsup:
