I've been road racing in the mid west for 6 or 7 years now with SCCA, Midwestern Council and NASA.
It's pretty addicting and seems to keep me from getting to my street car projects. These cars are not too much of a stretch from the cars many of you all have built (or are building).
You owe it to yourself to see if there is a track in your area. Try lapping in your street car as a start.
My current car was build by myself and is very easy to drive and mantain:
