Rob White bought the NRE 434 from me, so it's staying in the family, so to speak.

The LS7 fits perfect with the stock dry sump oil pan. No clearance issues anywhere.

Hi Tony Thanks. The Turbos? Well, in a way, yes I did.... a while back, I bought the same banks TT setup from Jim Hall. (I also bought Scotts D+D T56, McLeod twindisc, Ron Davis Intercooler setup, and BS3).

I gave my wife a big hug. I'm still not sure if she actually hugged me back....

Congrats Scott on the new LS7 and thanks for a great deal. The NRE 434 is liking the relatively warm winter weather over here.

Well, I've officially thrown in the towel on Autorama. I just couldn't make enough things happen all at once to make it. Oh well, just means I can be a little more paticular on the reassembly. It's still moving forward at a pretty rapid pace and should be completed some time late March, early April. Now I've got my sites set on Super Chevy show first weekend in May, in Columbus. We have a pretty big show here on the same weekend at the GM tech center. Decisions, decisions. Hope to see yours up and running soon:thumbsup:

what's the completion date? :D

There is no completion date. He is like any other tradesmen. A carpenter always owns a home never completed. A house painter has paint peeling form the outside of his house and it has been that way for years. Scott has a internet g-machine network and his car sits at home unfinished for years and years and years.

Remember he wants to repaint the car too. My own car took some 30 years to complete. Who know's I could be dead and have dirt thrown over me by the time he is finished.

Sorry Scott, that should motivate you.....

Scott,

The novice that I am, are you going to put the turbos back on this engine? If not will this engine / front end build be a similar set up to what Steve has at PHR?

R.P.

XcYZ
02-10-2007, 12:24 PM
I still want to add boost, but my plan at this point will be to get the car finished first. Roger, it will be similar to Steve's.

The headers are 1.75" and they're uncoated. I'm evaluating what I want to do. Run them as is, cut the primaries and have a local fabricator create stepped headers by welding 1.875" primaries tubes 6" past the flange, or perhaps try a different header all together. We're very fortunate to have Art Morrison involved with Lateral-g as they are willing to bend over backwards for their customers.

The ATS headers are very nice but are cost prohibitive to my project.

Yep, they are 1.75" primaries. They are from Art Morrison for their (and your) new subframe. They're really nice.

I've been talking to Kooks about a set of conversion headers. As you know, the exhaust ports on the LS7 are different from the standard LS port and I'd like a bigger primary. Although I wouldn't be scared to run the Art Morrison headers I have now.

Scott, would it not be easier to install a supercharger on that engine, then go through all the work of those turbos? How much power do you really need anyways? It would make that engine compartment a lot cleaner.

I have a Saleen 2001 281SC. You can't keep the car on the road at high rmp's and low speeds. haha. I have had it at 166 mph top speed. Ran out of 5th gear. How fast do you need to go?

I'm just trying to help you in the thought process of getting that car finished and on the road and on its way to completion. Everytime I see pics of that car it has new rims, headers, engine, you name it, you have changed it.

Next, you will be putting in a LS10 which has not even come out yet. I know you still want to paint the car too. Your going to be like me, thirty years later you have got it right. Plus I stuck to one engine and the same interior. lol.

Winter can be tough on the lawn. :D The fender is hanging by a couple of bolts, I loosely mounted it so I could get a better feel for where the dry sump tank is going. new oil hoses or do you think the stock ones will work? When Jim was helping the Hendrick's LS7 59 Vette he had to make new hoses. He cut the ends off and welded them to AN fittings. If you need to, I can get you his number and y'all can speak about it.

Scott,

I am learning more about the LS2/7 stuff now. There are major differences in the electronics to make them go from the LS1 stuff, or even the early/first gen LS2 motors.

The 07 Trailblazer SS has saved the day for the hot rod guy doing an auto trans, as you can get the E67 computer from that and the trans module to power up a 58 tooth reluctor in a hot rod application.

The E38 is a Vette computer - and is best suited for a manual trans.

Getting ever closer to firing up the LS7. I'm using at set of Kooks stainless headers, but had major issues with steering shaft and the #1 primary. I sent them to Stenod Performance and had them cut out the primary and fabricate a new one to my specs. They did a fantastic job. I couldn't be happier. While they were there, I had them install a set of V-band clamps on the collector. They even removed the Kooks stainless steel name plate and TIG'd it on the new primary.

Check out the welds.

Here's a few more items to go along with the update. I got the MODO Innovations pedal mounted to the LS7 throttle by wire assembly.

I also got a Nitrous Express LS7 MAF system. It's absolutely trick, it ties into the TPS wire on the engine harness and self learns where WOT is, which in turn is the switch to activate the shot. I hope my new project turns out half this nice.

Are those Kooks headers specific for our kind of application, or are those just 4th gen headers that you modified?

Get this project finished and on the road, so the rest of us can live vicariously, at least until you rip it apart for the next engine!

XcYZ

They are 4th Gen F-body LS7 conversion headers. They're close as is, but I had Stenod Performance move the #1 primary to clear the steering shaft (as well as weld on a set of V-band collector flanges). The headers will work great, but since they're for a 4th Gen, the collectors don't point straight back and aren't quite symmetrical. You'll never see that with the car on teh groun, hood open, etc, but when it's on a lift, it will be obvious. I'm not worried about that though, it's performance first, symmetry second.

I'm very close to firing it up. I'm just waiting for a few parts to show up, then I simply need to plumb it, add 12V, and make some noise. :)

Very Cool Piece - It has me thinking

I also got a Nitrous Express LS7 MAF system. It's absolutely trick, it ties into the TPS wire on the engine harness and self learns where WOT is, which in turn is the switch to activate the shot. The nozzles and solenoids are all contained in a billet MAF housing that's annodized black. It's a beautiful piece.

Scott, I forget, what exhaust did you say you were going to go with?

What transmission are you going with behind the LS7?
Will you be using a SFI bellhousing?

XcYZ
05-16-2007, 06:36 AM
The exhaust is 3" mandrel with and X and the mufflers are Spintech.

The T56 is a reworked unit from Rockland Standard. Right now, the bellhousing is stock, but I'll be looking into an SFI approved steel bellhousing down the road.

That T-56 is a sout unit. Does yours have the viper output conversion??

Reason I asked was I just ordered a mcleod SFI bellhousing for my car and it seems to be a universal unit and it has starter provisions on both sides which can effect your exhaust routing if you install one at a later date.
Steve has one on Penny and he said it make the driverside exhaust routing a bit tricky.

I've read some disturbing things about the late-model F-body version of the McLeod SFI bellhousing over on LS1Tech.com - seems there are some unexplained issues with alignment or something else damaging the trans.

In my case, I decided to use the stock bellhousing with a tailored bellhousing blanket from these folks:

http://exoticmuscle.com/catquery.php?EMCAT=fbody&CATSEL=SAFETY#F6800

(scroll down, second from bottom).

The blanket is probably not technically NHRA legal, nor is it probably as absolutely safe as an SFI bell, but it's certainly safer than nothing and has the additional advantages of much lower weight and no exhaust clearance issues ...

The motor is completely finished and set in the car, ready to fire. Working on the power steering, Hydroboost, and fuel system plumbing. I have the computer, harness, radiator hoses, etc, everything I need to fire it up. It won't be long now, but I doubt I'll push to fire it before Power Tour. I'm pretty stoked, had to share a few pics. :)

Jim, I fab'd the intake plumbing with 4" mandrel bend steel. I spray bombed it satin to see if I wanted to go that route or possibly silver. After seeing it in satin, I'll have a friend of mine do a little body work to it and spray it.

Tony, there's a breather in the valve cover that will be plumbed to the remote breather/separator tank.

That's what I want to do as well, but not sure if I can package a breather tank and still keep the fire wall uncluttered with everything else that is going on. I can't put it next to the headlight due to the IC plumbing...time will tell I guess. :)

I'm up in the air on the subframe. I haven't decided on either powdercoating it or having it painted black with a satin clear.

its a lot easier to touch up paint. If you chip pwder coat there is no going back. What are the deminsions on the patterson dry sump tank and what is the capacity?

XcYZ

Thanks Joe.

That's a very good point, Travis. As for dimensions, the tank is 6" x 20" with an 8 quart capacity. Peterson can make them in 6", 7" and 9" diameters in about any capacity that you want, as well as any bung configuration. ATS is a dealer for Peterson, he can give you all the options.

I got the complete fuel system built and in the car last night. I put a few gallons of gas in it and set fuel pressure. Getting sooo close... if I wasn't leaving for the Power Tour, I'd have it running this weekend.
