View Full Version : Winter Vacation - where are you going?
Where are you going for winter vacation this year? We won't be going anywhere, but I wish we were. Somewhere warm.

in NC. Not near as cool as skiing in the west. but it is a 2 hour drive and my boys that are 4.5 and 7 think there is nothing better than snow.
Speaking of snow. We got 2 inches this morning. First snow of the year and it is almost gone because it changed to rain.

Never thought I'd see the day when NC got more snow than MA. We've had less than 1" of snow total for this winter! Usually we've had 30"+ by now!
Going nowhere this winter but I'm researching summer rentals on the Cape or up in NH right now. Is it July yet?:D

I came down to NC to get away from the winter whether of the north I was quite suppressed when I woke up to snow this morning. I guess if I didn’t spend 12-15 hours days in the engineering building I could watch the news and see what the weather will be.
I plane to go to Florida to visit my grand father and then down to Key West for a few days in early march
Riviera Maya in February
Florida in March

I'm going to put my helmet on, make vroom vroom sounds in the dark and pretend to be on a motorcycle trip somewhere warm and with no speed traps.

Went to Riviera Maya on my honeymoon Theresa. I'd go again in a heartbeat!!!! Beautiful place. We stayed at the Iberostar Tucan resort.
I highly recommend snorkling right off the coast (2nd largest reef in the world!). Take a day trip on the ferry to Cozumel island (30 minutes each way). Also, don't miss an opportunity to go to the coastal ancient ruins of Tulum. We split a day tour, morning to Xel Ha and afternoon at Tulum, it was awesome! Xcaret was overrated we heard so we didn't see that. The other thing I would have liked to see is more of the underground river system "cenotes" and the ruins at Chichen Itza. Bring drops for "Swimmer's Ear" and don't drink the water! I got a nasty ear infection the day before we left, the plane ride was torture!

Thanks! I really appreciate the ideas! I'm just now starting to think of the things we can do when we get there... Thank you so much, you're ideas really help.

Not planning any vacations this winter. Just had my wedding and honeymoon a couple months ago. Right now I am saving most of my money so that I can move to Charlotte in July. I can acually get a morgage on a nice size house over there for less than my $1300 rent payment for my one bedroom apt here.

Theresa...What Ben said... The ruins at Tulum, Uxmal, and Chitzen Tiza. Cozumel is a great island with very friendly people. Xcaret is a underground river that you float in out to the ocean. They have blasted holes in the rock above to let light in and the water is absolutely clear. I first went maybe 20 years ago and it was really a treat. I went back a few years ago and it was more like a disney ride with the line to get in snaking back and forth. Back then you could actually climb the Pyramids. I don't know if you still can. Up the coast from Cancun near Playa Del Carmen is Akumal. Akumal has a neat bay with a reef to snorkel on. There are cannons on the sea floor left over from long ago...

ARUBA!!! I can't wait I'm leaving on the 19th for Boston and flying outon the 20th 5 a.m .and staying for 9 nights. This time we're bringing our kids 6 & 8 . If you've never been there it's great and even has a drag strip!!! ( my wife loved that one lol) . Very nice people , I drove ALL over the island and had a great time!! Lots to do , rent 4-wheelers boat rides, fishing site-seeing,nice beaches, good food.
(I'm starting to sound like a travel agent lol) So if you haven't figured it out yet I highly recommend it!! :woot:

But I heard it is the land of big boats, big boobs and big money. Sounds like a place I need to check out. How about a vid clip of "Stuart's Girls Gone Wild."

England for 3 weeks around Christmas and New Year's to visit the in-laws. Took my gun over with me and went on a driven Pheasant shoot. A lot of fun! Went to a lot of pubs- luvs me that English Real Ale. Here's a pic of me trying to dress the part of a country gentleman.
Missed the Autosport Engineering show (read UK PRI Show) by 2 days. Next year I will definitely be going!
