View Full Version : New 2nd Gen Firebird Project - "Splitter"
We're building a dual purpose road course / drag race 1970 Trans-Am Clone named "Splitter" - like split personality, lane splitter, splitting headache... big Pontiac power, sub-9 second 1/4 miles, road course capable, resto-quality. Stay tuned for more!

Very cool, Kevin. Should be awesome. Are there and specs you can give us, or do we have to tune in? :)
Oh, and Hermance does outstanding work.
Thanks Scott, and yes, Ben did another great job.
The interesting challenge with this car is going to be setting up dual-purpose suspension. We're fabricating a watts link rear, and using tubular front suspension pieces to make this car handle as well as accelerate. It's in the mini tub process now, and it's coming along nicely. We'll know more on the motor soon.
Will it have coilovers on all 4 corners? I would think that having two different sets of coilovers that have the right damping and spring rates that you could swap for drag racing and road courses would be the way to go.

so... you're not gonna use another Schwartz chassis? He's making one for the second gens now. I love the renderings. The drag version w/ slicks and skinnies should get Bogarts. They go over really well up Norf. :hail:
The drag setup is to be able to compete in NMCA type events... it'll have an NHRA legal cage, and the owner Brett Evans wants to run this thing hard. Here's the link to his last project, which is now sporting twin turbos...

Thanks John, I really appreciate it!
I just spent an hour looking at prices on these...Holy S***! I can't believe how high they are already! Maybe I'll stick with the Nova for now. I'll sell it in a few years for a down payment.:D

Get a firebird or a formula. The rest you can get on ebay, lots of shaker hoods fenders and spoilers. The rest is motor and suspension, which you'd be changin anyway. Lot cheaper.

have been looking at these since I saw SW's car.
Any updates / photos? Sounds like it will be awesome!
We've been working on this one, getting parts and stuff. We'll post some shots in the next couple weeks... suspension & brakes are up first.
Stay tuned!
