I am looking to get your thoughts on whether to go with an Ididit or Flaming River steering column/steering wheel setup. I would like to get input regarding pricing, performance, fit & finish, ease of installation, available accessories, etc. Your advice is appreciated.
I do understand that in any case the ignition will have to be relocated.

We have used and sold a lot of IDidIt columns. Excellent fit, finish and hook ups are straight forward. The ignition on 69 IDidIt column is relocated, but is still on the column. Flaming River makes nice stuff, but the IDidIt stuff has been so trouble free we have seen no need to carry FR.
Also, we can hook you up with a nice deal onIDidIt over the the store.

I would recommend Ididit 100%. Besides being great quality and priced very competitively, the people there are great to deal with. They can even help with custom orders if you are looking for something a little bit different - although their factory replacement column is perfect as is.
Just my experience.

I have an ididit and had a problem with the first one. I called them and told them about it, and they took it back and set me an upgraded one at no cost. The upgrade was another $100 that they paid for. You can't beat that. Call Frank at Prodigy Customs, he will give you a good deal.

Everyone here seems to like the Ididit, I personally do about 12 columns a year from Flaming River and have had no problems with them. Every column we order is custom for the most part and have never had issues with any of them. Some of the ones we order are the stock replacements and they fit perfect. I guess they are both good and depends on what you like. Flaming River has nice steering wheels that they just released and they are very nice. You can see a bunch of the columns on our website on the project vehicle page. Almost all the customs up there have FR columns in them. I hope this helps you out and good luck. If you decide you want FR I am a dealer for them.

I have been wondering the same thing. My column still has the column shift base on it even though I converted it to a t56. I love the brushed aluminum look on those columns. I do not want chrome or polished. Most of them I have seen available are eather steel or polished.
My deal with aftermarket columns is the OD of the housing. When they are installed in a 1st Gen, there's a large gap between the housing and the instrument carrier.
Do both Ididit and FR have small OD housings?

Scott,
You can get the FR in a 2" OD, and the Ididit in up to 2.25". I have the DSE carrier, and I don't think either size should leave much of a gap.

Thanks to all for the input. It sounds like both are great brands. For me, it appears that the deciding factor will be the choice between an aluminum (Ididit) or stainless (FR) housing. I do want the housing to be black. The stainless would have to be painted or powder coated. The aluminum could be anodized black. That would be pretty cool.
Thanks again.

take the column apart. You may want to see if they can do that for you before it is shipped. No sure you want to do that on your own. Some of the pieces on my Flaming River column are pressed.
