It's a one owner 1967 Ford Custom 500, 289, stick shift, radio delete, 9" Posi. Came from New Mexico.
Should we put 17" vintiques steelies with the dog dish hubcaps, or gray spoke 17" Bullet wheels with the deep lip?
Thanks
Jeff

depends on the budget- low buck shop beater- steelies.

anything else- fat lips would work- but the huge wheel openings beg for at least 19".
17' would probably be lost in there-chris

It's gonna get a complete resto, not much is available as far as parts go.
Stock two tone aqua interior, most will be cleaned and re-used. Only windshield glass is available, so that'll get re-used as well. Probably a dark jade blue/geen exterior. The wheel wells are not that big on this, it's got 14" on it now. Room for 12" of tire in the back.
They don't make drag radials in 19's.
Thanks

Cool ride Jeff! I think either wheel would look great. What's going in it for motor, tranny, rear?

It's got a 9" posi in it stock and a stick shift.
I was leaning towards a sleeper look with widened steelies but with,
twin turbos, efi on the 289, with a main and valley girdle of course and TKO 600 or Viper 6 speed. I'm gonna leave the radio delete, manual steering brakes (but with discs).
Did anyone see that beige Torino at the CC Nats with the 17" steelies? It was in CC a couple issues back.

How about the Wheel Vintiques Billet solid or gennie wheel. I'm not sure what the weight difference would be between the steel 17" and the aluminum 18". You can get them up to 18x9.5" and if you powdercoated the whole wheel they would look like a stock style steel wheel. Most of the caps that they make for them look a little too old for a '67 model, but the ones below might work.

I wanted to use these on my '52 Chevy pickup, but they don't make any Chevy caps that will fit these wheels :(

You sure you don't need a '62 Falcon too! - J/K

I was thinking about the Vintiques series 64, OEM Ford GM they say. I've got the stock dog dish hub caps and bought 3 more on ebay.
I'm gonna do the wheels body color. I'd like to do 17x10 rear and 17x9 front.
The rendering should be done soon

That's the car I was talking about!
I want those 17" wheels with my stock dog dish hubcaps.
10" wide rears and 8 or 9" fronts. I'm not really a Ford guy, I've been accused of being a Caddy guy, I'm just a different guy.

That's a cool project, Jeff. I dig both versions, actually. Good thing wheels and tires are easy to change based on your mood!

Like we talked about, there are lots of oddball Fords out there that would make killer projects.

Like these '67 Mercurys -

Or these '67 Galaxies -

Or for something really bizarre and cool, try these old '60 Mercs -

The muted color looks great! Both wheel combos work well, I'm just partial to the sleeper-ness of the dog dishes:unibrow:

Yea, I couldn't believe that 67 Merc vert in CA you showed me on ebay. Couldn't get a single bid of $500.

i think its absolutely awesome, like the torq-trust style wheels eons better then the steelies, but thats me.. and if it were mine id sneak some ghost graphics on to it...

but please... more pictures as it progresses... also of the turbo build, please.. it will be nice to see somthing that is well-engineered and built from stock components, and not some bolt-on wonder-250.000$ dream car.. the caddy was a personal favorite of mine btw

;) :P

I am looking forward to seeing this one come together! You guys have no idea how bad I wanna work for Jeff. I think I would end up divorced and renting the loft in the shop if I did! Hey Jeff, save one of those LS7's for this one and join the Ford powered by Chevy crowd!

Cool car Jeff. My dad had a '67 Galaxy 500 with a 427 4spd back in the day.

Yea, my step dad had a 67 LTD 2dr hardtop with a 390. Seems like everybody had these back then, 700,000 production but only 18,000 post coupes and a handfull of 427s.
Here's the wheels i just got.

jeff s
02-17-2007, 06:55 PM
I weighed it today in stock, pre-build form, 3420 lbs. Turbos and intercooler will add weight, but aluminum heads and intake should make it a wash. Balance is 54% front 46% rear, but there's room to shove the engine back 5".

J2SpeedandCustom
02-18-2007, 08:19 AM
3420 dang I thought it would be heavier than that...I really like the wheels and paint color Jeff can't wait to see it all together!!!

I got the original seat material, seats are out for upholstery, also recieved wheels and tires. Found some NOS parts on ebay, turn signal lenses, hood latch, etc.
