i have a lil clearance issue with my rack and steering joint and vette ls1 oilpan ...
question ...
can i move the rack a little forward instead of being line up straight linked to the steering arms ?i know usually you want all this lined up but will it hurt to move it forward??? if i can move it what the rule of thumb for this ?
thanks

No rule of thumb. By moving it foward you will change the bumpsteer characteristics...either good or bad. Doing so will effectively shorten the length of the tie rod ends. You don't need to have the rack lined up with the TRE, it just depends on the geometry. However, I would seriously look into notching the pan (or whatever) before moving the rack.

well
after asking some questions to a couple ls1 guys ..i believe i need a ls1 camaro oil pan ..thanks for the input from you guys ..
a notch will probably be needed no matter what but the camaro pan is shallower in the front....
so any body need a c5 ls1 pan???

Hey there, im no suspension guru so please correct me if im wrong but i got told moving the rack either forward or back out of a straight line will change the akerman angle which is the angle the wheels turn (standard on full lock if the left wheel turns say 70 degrees the right will do the same but if you move the rack forward the left wheel will turn 70 degrees and the right will turn 80 sort of thng)
I cant remeber which way it makes the angle change when you move it forward or back
bump steer is cause by the pivot points on the rack arms and the lower control arms not being in the same point
Like i said im no guru its just what ive been told so if im wrong please correct me ( cause if im wrong my cars probably wrong and ill fix it!!!!!!)
cheers sean
