Well, I can't speek for all but some of us have good paying jobs, some have investment equity, and some have real good loans or credit.
I personally make pretty good money at my job. Im a master journey man at a local dealership. On top of that iam very resourceful. I recycle metal that is junk to others. I buy and sell parts, and sometimes do jobs to pay for things I need. Most of the tools I have are from helping others build their projects or making custom parts. But now its time for me.
Two important things about this hobby is using your head and follow through. vince

You haven't told us yet where you live.
Myself living in Sweden is no good start, all parts are expensivier just by that (Shipping, importduties etc). We have a lot of distribution companies selling American stuff so it is not any problem finding parts but they will cost at least twice of the price in the States.
Then the other end of the flow, the funding. With the worlds highest taxes it is not much left in the wallet when all the costs for living is paid. Sounds depressive, right, and it is sometimes. Then one have to be resourceful.
It is no problem to get credits or mortage your house. Myself I made a good estatedeal that gave me the funds for doing the major stuff on my car. Now after that I will take it slowly and do small changes every winter.
I have my own company and makes reasonable good money so I have some left to spend. As everybody knows a wife will reduce your carfunds with about half. My project has cost me, besides the parts, two new bathrooms, and I am still behind on those projects http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/images/smilies/biggrin1.gif. They can be very forgiving too you know. (Lucky for us)
We'll see if it will be a new T-56 next winter or a bathroom...

A combo of things. My wife and I both work, but neither of us make big bucks. I try to do side jobs (engine swaps, repairs, etc) for people for some extra scratch. I have also found ebay to be a great way of liquidating parts in my garage and putting some green back in the wallet.
Visa and Mastercard are my friends when I am building something.
I pick up a little extra money selling the corvette headlight conversions.
I also try to make do with whatever I have on hand. I make many of my own tools, parts, and come up with unique, strange, different ways of making swap parts fit. For example, I could'nt scrape up $1,000 for the custom gas tank, so I retro-fitted a 96 Caprice tank. That cost me $0, because I parted out what was left of the car and put money back in the bank! Same on the power window, etc.

I've been swampped so I have not checked email much the last week (getting the 69 ready for delivery).. I will answer mail tomorrow.. promise :)
As for the funds.. well my wife and I both make decent $$.. not boatloads but enough.. We have done good with the SoCal real estate market. Decent money put away and no real debt except for the mortgage and the wifes car.
So long as we have money for bills and fun my wife lets me do whatever car wise.. She figures it is better than other things I could be doing (ie. it keeps me outta trouble)..
Plus I only have one toy at a time..

I cook meth out in the shed-- it's tax-free supplemental cash income. :P
Er, I mean I have a good paying job, and still living at home since I recently got out of school. Doesn't help that I can't afford an average price home here in CA. So, I play with the car a lot and save at the same time.
I also do a lot of computer side jobs on the side (network installs and maintenance, custom builds, etc), car side jobs (mods, audio installs, etc.) and that helps too.
My car would have been done by now, but unfortunately I was one stinking number off from winnng 35 million in the lotto in January (seriously, I'm not joking about that, and to top it off the number I missed was only one digit away from the winner!) Still got $30K out of it by the time Uncle Sam got his cut, so it was better than a poke in the eye! :lolhit:
If I was foolish I would have spent all that money on paint and going to twin turbos, but I decided to invest it instead and continue with the car as my "normal budget" allows.

I dont have a high paying job, but i've saved my money... got some good deals, knew some people that knew people that could do stuff for cheap.
Took me almost 3 years to get things to my liking.
Btw, i've been in college the entire time of the build :)

I make decent money and don't owe anybody but family and the mortage. If I would concentrate on one project I might finish quicker. Too many toys.
