Hey,

Time to start formulating an engine build for my Fairlane. Here's what I need to do.

Run 11.70 minimum in the 1/4 mile
Cars weight is 3500 lbs.

Need to use a C4 auto transmission and line lock

can change out the differential to one with appropriate gearing

Now the fun part.. the engine.

351W based (can be a stroker, 408?)

Max budget for the engine (carb to pan with disty) is $6000

I imagine that to him my drag number I need over 500hp.

Also, this is a magazine deal so I need to use part for mainstream companies for obvious reasons. Barry Grant, Edelbrock, those sorts of people. The exception is if an offbeat place makes a part that is lightyears better than the other guys for around the same price.

Oh, has to run on CA pump gas so no crazy compression or an idle that completly sucks to cruise around town with.

So, give me your build ideas. If I pick on for this site I will send that person a prize. Nothing extravagant, but something fun.

The sooner I do this chore the sooner I can start working on handling and braking.

The November '06 issue of Car Craft had a pretty good recipe for a 500 horse 408 motor from Coast High Performance. www.coasthigh.com

I'd grab the chance to be one of the first (if perhaps not the first) magazine to do a story one the Jon Kaase/Jeg's small block Ford heads (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10002_22799_-1_10187). On a 351 cid they're gonna get you easy 500 hp. :unibrow:
They are $825.99 ea. = $1,651.98
Since I already was over at the Jeg's web, I found a 392 stroker kit (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categoryitem_10001_10002_118200_-1_408547) @ $1,522.99, a Ford Racing 351 Sportsman block (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categoryitem_10001_10002_20283_-1_585707) @ $1,295.99, some 351W Hydraulic Roller Pushrods (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categoryitem_10001_10002_22799_-1_87455) @ $129.99, and a Moroso Street/Strip Oil Pan (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10002&searchTerm=710-20508) @ $189.99, a 820 CFM BG Race Demon Carburetor (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categoryitem_10001_10002_24377_-1_11273) @ $999.99, Crane Cams Gold Race Extruded Billet Rockers (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categoryitem_10001_10002_13697_-1_33897) @ $319.99. At last, the trusty Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap manifold (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categoryitem_10001_10002_15941_-1_54689) @ $825.99

I'm no camshaft expert, so I'd leave that to the pros... Anyway, that all adds up to $6,346.91. That leaves you $0 for the cam, gaskets, oil pump, drivegear, waterpump/cover and distributor. If you already have a 351W block, you're back on budget.
BTW, I'd try the Crane optical distributor. You guys at PHR did a story on it earlier. I got it's and it's great! :D

P.S: I would go for a 408 or 418 stroker instead of the 392, but that is what they had at Jeg's. Added it just to get a $ number.
