I have a size limit for the attachments. If you e-mail them to me, I'll just pop them up on the server instead of attaching them to a post here on the Forums.

Congrats Keith.

Not trying to take away any of your thunder, but how many times is Hot Rod Magazine going to $hit on me? Every single time I have had work featured in that magazine, they go out of their way to crop my name out of my artwork. When will it stop?

First was Tyler's car, where they put John McBride and GMP Die-Cast RIGHT OVER where I had my name on the image.

Next was the yellow 71 Chevelle I did for Detroit Locker, where they cropped the image to keep my name off of it and made no mention whatsoever that I had anything to do with the project.

In that same issue, I was featured alongside several other artists. I was given the smallest amount of space of all the artists, yet had only 3 days to finish their project, while every other artist had two weeks or more.

I don't understand it. I'm not trying to sound like some Primadonna, but Hot Rod seems to be doing it almost on purpose. PHR and Car Craft were both great about giving credit, leaving my name on the images AND giving me credit in the write-up. I'm not asking to be mentioned in the article itself, just to leave my images unaltered. Resized I can understand, but cropping my name out isn't cool with me.

Tell me if I'm out of line, but it's just happened every time and I'm feeling kinda burned by it.

Again, congrats Keith, the car will be awesome and I'm glad it's getting the press it deserves!

I went back through the files I sent Keith and found that my name was not cropped out of the image. It was erased. That's worse than just cropping it out. Someone there must not like me very much. I've attached the image. I resized it to be a reasonable attachment size, but still have the original image on file as well.

Yup, they went to him exactly as you sent me. Sorry Kris....
Actually, I told him to erase it because you didn't call me when you were in town for the construction convention ;)

I knew that'd bite me in the ass. We flew out early, around 4pm. Caught an earlier flight. Then when I realized I forgot to call you I was like "f**k Keith, I hate that guy." So...yeah. No call for you. :D Sorry man!

Yup...and I thought "NO! F*&K Kris, he's not getting any credit"!!! :D
If it's any consolation, he included my web address at the end of the article and if you click the links page, you're on top. I just saw a 2000+ spike in hits yesterday and set the site up for unlimited bandwidth for the upcoming traffic from when everyone else gets their copy!

Kris,

This may not be the answer but if you added your name directly under the car maybe they won't crop it. Just a thought.

Congrats on the article Keith!

Andrew, that is the answer. It's a smart thing to do, but I'm not a fan of sticking my name right by the focal point of the picture. I don't think my customers would be too crazy about it either.

Kris, in regards to the poster.. if you could resend me the file and put you name in between the two wheels and parallel to the rocker panel, I think it would avoid future problems with my project with further publishings....

Thank you guys for the support. I really appreciate it!

Hey congrats Keith, I will have to go pick up a copy! Must be real happy!

Kris, did you see the post over at TeamCamaro its title 07 Camaro I think..theres a link to some pics that seem rip offs of yours, and they seem to be all over the internet. Your pics sure are popular, it just sucks you dont get the credit owed to you for them. Must take some patience.

You guys should probably know that Marcus here is the absolute driving force behind my entire suspension design and I owe alot of the car's future potential to him. Those of you looking for a new school of thought for your F, A & G bodies' suspension should give his website a whirl or call him up. :)

Hey Kris

You could always put your "LOGO" as a windshield header, across the top like a banner. You could also move my side marker lights and add my tag to the back of my renderings so they are finished. :D

You da man!!

I personally think that your signature would be less likely removed if it was more like art and less like an advertisement. It is about the art not the artist.....if people like the art they will look for the signature.

Keith, first off...congratulations. That's awesome. I can't wait to see the finished project. I may do a Chevelle for my next project when I'm done with this one sometime around the turn of the next century. :D

Andrew, that is the answer. It's a smart thing to do, but I'm not a fan of sticking my name right by the focal point of the picture. I don't think my customers would be too crazy about it either.

Why not? Chip Foose does. And just about every sketch done here at Design Center has the artists signature right underneath it.

I'm assuming that Hot Rod is getting these pictures from PHR being that they are both owned by Primedia. It might be that your signature is too far off in the corner of the photo for them to fit it in. Place your signature directly under the car (parallel with the rocker or bottem of quarter panel) and see what happens. If they still continue to edit your name out, than I would ask that Hot Rod cease using your photos unless proper credit is given for the artwork. This is disrespectful as those sketches are part of your livelyhood. If Hunkin's can't get them to stop from the practice than I would kindly thank him for the memories and sever ties with Primedia altogether. I would than warn them about litigation in the future if they ever decide to get cute and use one of your sketches from a website in one of their articles. I'm not sure if you were paid for your services to Primedia and it's none of my business anyway. But if you were, they might feel that the photos are theirs to do with as they wish being since they paid for them. And they wouldn't be wrong about that either. But it doesn't change the fact that it's disrespectful. Don't worry about pissing off Hunkins or Popular Hotrodding, make it clear that it's not their fault...and it wouldn't be. Sure they gave you notoriety, but you gave them some great artwork for their articles...even the one that started the whole 5th gen Camaro craze. The credit goes to you. Without those 3D renderings that article might never have seen the light of day. Your work is truely unique Kris, no one else is doing the quality of work and detail that your doing right now. Don't underestimate your worth. I love Popular Hotrodding just as much as any G-Machiner does, but this is a dog eat dog world....survival of the fittest. They did for you...but YOU did for them, so all things are even.

Even if you never see another of your sketches in a magazine again, you'd still be the best out there for 3D renderings. And through the notoriety on websites such as Pro-Touring.com, Lateral-G.net, Camaros.net and a few others...most of the world would know it and still call on you to provide your service to them.

Just my $.02 :)
