Doing a '70 Nova now, then a Chevelle.

Come to think of it, those three cars are they only thing I would build. I must be narrow minded, ;) .

I've been told I have a Camaro, but it's more like a driveway ornament for the moment. Then again, I also have a 1965 Buick Special 4-door to work on too, so my driveway is extremely redneck decorated.

Don't have one. Never did. Probably never will. No Camaros, Mustangs, or Firebirds for me. I've built 'em as project cars for the mags and enjoyed every minute of it, but they're just too easy. Anyone can build a good Camaro. If you can't, you're brain damaged.

I like to build other stuff- I'm into A-bodies right now but that's probably temporary. I've built Mopars before (3 B-bodies) and they were fun too.

I'm heading into a rod/custom phase I think. I have a '50 Buick I'm doing a custom job on and I'm craving an early Ford hot rod.

After I finish the Chevelle and the GTO, I'll probably get into that stuff.

...so that should be in about 10 years...

There are plenty.

The point is, it's relatively easy to build a Camaro when compared to almost any other model of car. Small-block, automatic, wheels, tires, exhaust, stereo....Done.

I know many here go MUCH further, but to do a "decent" Camaro is pretty damn easy, don't you think?

Well the principles of building ANY car are the same.. 1st gen Camaros are only easier because they have a HUGE aftermarket (because they are so popular). Infact I would say it is easier to build an ugly camaro because there are so many nice examples to compare it to.

Also, since there are so many nice 1st gen Camaros I would say it is actually harder to build on the is unique and stands out from the crowd.

Did that make any sense??? :_paranoid

Scotch
03-31-2005, 08:59 AM
I think second- and third-gens might be even easier than first-gens..

..and yes, it's tough to build a "unique" Camaro...because....?

LOL!

Braindamage or not, have you considered how many of us that might have been conceived in the backseat of a Camaro :unibrow:

Might be some reason why we are so fond of them.

Oh well, I guess it's time to unload both of my first gen camaro projects, they are just too damn easy to build... I accidently finished one after supper last night and I didn't even realize it!

It certainly doesn't matter that this is the car that I like and always wanted to build....The parts are now just TOO available, and I certainly don't want people to think I'm only one step beyond brain dead by building myself a decent one....I need a REAL challenge that I can suffer through and never ever finish, yet talk about incessantly, to prove myself truly worthy...one that the almighty magazines will appreciate...I hope the magazine people hurry up and tell me what to build next!
I simply MUST please them!!!:hail:

Hmm...Maybe a PT conestoga wagon? I gotta get Kris going on a rendering...

Who you talkin about?? ;)

<-- I am all about Camaros :) (p.s. Ive owned BEFORE they were nutty popular)

I like other stuff too.. just that if I have to have just one car you bet it is gonna be a maro.. when I get a bigger garage I will get a nova, chevelle, mustang, maveric and maybe even a wagon to haul the pooches around it :willy:

And to be honest the people tell magazines what to feature.. we focus on what people are building.. Julys issue is gonna be chock full of MOPARS though :)

Hey Steve...Don't get the wrong Idea...What I was referring to was how some folks seem to be so much more concerned with building something that others will like, more than what they themselves really want to do...My first Camaro was a 1968 back in high school, and it's been a long time since it rusted out from under me back in NY...I always wanted to have a 69 model, but school/career/family delayed that until a few years ago...So, I don't care if some folks think that the car I like is "too easy" to build...or "nutty popular"...or whatever. To each his own.

I remember growing up that it was more common to find a 1st gen camaro sitting outside a broken down single wide trailer with a red wood deck than it was to see one on the street with glossy paint.

I also remember going to the junkyard looking for parts for my 69 as a kid and simply tripping over all the 1st gen heaps. There were more than you could count stretched as far as you could see. Pro-street was all the rage back then so a "super hot" camaro was tubbed with a locker that could not make a U turn in a 100' radius! Those where the days.

Now when I go to the bone yard, there are maybe a half a dozen third gens and one or two totally smashed 4th gens. I see 1st gens reaching the status of Rock Star at the auction sites and show circuits. It blows my mind.

Mopars are much the same. I thought that movie "Joe Dirt" was right on with the mullet haired redneck and the old super bird. Look what a good clean hemi goes for these days. Scary!

It makes me wonder what a 1992 Honda Civic will be to the hot rodders of the future as they look back on their youth with fond memories!
