Zibbn Fast 69

[Porterbuilt]

Yet another 69... I figured I would post up some pics of a project camaro we (Porterbuilt Street Rods) are building for a client, Zibbn Fast Racing. The project has been dubbed "Sinister" and will be an all black two-seater roadster. Its foundation consists of an Art Morrison Max-G muscle car chassis that will be rolling on Bose Forged wheels 19x8s up front and 20x12s in the rear. Powerplant is a BRE 540 blown and injected 'Street Kill" motor that will transfer its 900+ hp through a Th400 and Gear Vendors overdrive.

I will continue to post updated pics as the project progresses.

But Personally I dont like the speedster idea (I have kids), No disrespect
and the dash is getting a little played out , But done right could be badass!

It's hard to build a 69 Camaro and incorporate ideas that haven't been "played out"!
As for the dash... I think the end result will be appealing (of course I will have a 'little' bias!)

I will definitely keep the pics coming. There are a couple other projects on the horizon that will also make their way onto the board.

WOW, what a original idea? Welcome to 2002! Now if I could only put my finger on where I have seen that before? Why it's a Project Prodigy tribute car! No worries here, imitation is the purest form of flatterary. It has been tried a few times now but no one seems to nail it, but this one is the most blatant. Hope the owner is 5'4" or less with that seat sitting on those floors at the top of the rockers or else he will be looking over the windshield instead of through it. He might get a crick in his neck looking down at that cool dash, or his head may hit that awesome roll bar!

I am sure you guys have not seen this. I have more detailed pics to help you get it right if you need them.

And this is why I'm sometimes tempted to never render another first-gen Camaro ever again...the owner of this car came to me and told me that's how he wanted it and it was already being fabricated. It's getting to the point where people are saying "hey, you can't do that because I did it and I did it first!" It's like telling someone they can't have the same wheels as you because you were the first to do it in my opinion.

Rendering first-gens is gonna start giving me an ulcer from all the worrying I do to make sure I don't step on anyone's toes...lol. :faint:

Kris, to be clear. I am 100% certain these people asked you for this stuff. I DO NOT think you pushed the idea on them. I am also 100% certain that they saw Project Prodigy, or your renderings of Project Prodigy before they hired you.

I DO NOT feel any ownership in our ideas, and DO NOT hold any hard feeling towards you, the owner, or the builder. As I said, we are flattered.

I will be the first to admit I have taken design ideas from others, usually other type cars, and incorporated them into our builds. Unfortunately, your first post made an invaluable first impression on me.

I definitely have seen the 'Project Prodigy' before and I like it. There are some very similar ideas incorporated into this build. The only idea that I could feel responsible for 'mimmicking' would be the role bar. This car started life as a coupe, and I never paid attention to Prodigy's dash or motor. If it were up to me the car would have an LSx motor with a pair of turbos... but the motor had already been purchased. Maybe a Duramax would've been unique enough????? :lol:

Anyways, I could probably be here all day justifying why this car isn't the same as yours... it wouldn't get us anywhere! Last thing I want is a feud between someone whose work has my respect... I better get back to work!

Pro-Touring Yugo anyone? Pretty sure no one will be throwing up red flags on that one...well, not when it comes to the design but rather the fact that someone's actually building a Yugo...

I'm glad the there's no serious bad blood forming between Prodigy and Porterbuilt. I'm sure the end result of the Zibbn car will be a substantial departure from Project Prodigy. One's a 68, the other a 69. One has a Stinger hood with the motor concealed, the other will have a cowl hood with a blower scoop. And so on, and so on. If anything, this will be another positive for nice Camaro convertibles. I've always preferred hardtops, but with cars like Prodigy out there it's getting hard to not like verts more. :thumbsup:

Porterbilt I think it is very mature of prodigy Customs to be as cool with it as they are. His first post may have given you a wierd first impression, but his post was posted after seeing a car with almost identical custom touches. Not simply the same wheels, and not simply the same roll bar. You could tell after he soaked it in his other posts were a lot more calm. I would like to think I would have reacted the same way as Frank. Your car is looking great and I am looking forward to seeing it completed.

Tyler's a definite voice of experience in this case after seeing that one Norwegian (or wherever it was) Camaro that ripped off his body kit and the Hot Rod Magazine car that had a rear spoiler lik the one one 50/50. It happens in the industry. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes by coincidence, but rarely, if ever, out of spite. I'm sure Frank was just pissed that someone was building a very similar car. It's human nature to want to have the first, best, and only version of something. That's why things that are "one of a kind" are so expensive and that's why things that are knock-offs off of those things are in such high demand.

how about the hundreds of copies out there some nicer some not but it is neat to say you were the first. I was going to build a mustang that was two tone copper/orange and black with R bumper cover. I had Kris Horton render it and then Brian came out with pictures of his and damn it was the car I wanted to build. Being different is good( take Jeff Schwartz for example) but there are only so many ways to build a car and using other peoples ideas is a fact of life (in almost every portion of life)..so go ahead and incorporate them into your cars and enjoy. if something becomes played out then it will just force someone out there to think of something new. Aren't we all copying Big Red, Hal Baer's Mustang, The Novette that Hod Rod Magazine built in the early eighties(silver and black 64?)and some of the other fore fathers of Pro-touring anyway?

I have seen the renderings of this car. It is safe to say the only part of this car that is similar is the pictures shown at the begining of the thread. The rest of the car is a far departure. I would like to retract my tribute coment, LOL! Again. not pissed at all. just a smart ass I guess. Anyone that knows me knows i am serious about 50% of the time. Actually the way I figure it, about the time Prodigy fades, this thing will pop and renew it.

Tyler, Actually my 1968 Shelby KR500 convertible was the inspriation for the roll bar and Shelbyisk / Cobra fuel door. We did see SteveOs car and confirm our gas cap fantasy. We called Steve and told him we were stealing his cap, before we knew him. In fact, I think that is how we met. At the time Michael started this car, I was out of the pro touring loop and did not know the Innovator existed. I did not join Pro Touring until Aug 2003. When I saw it I was like damn! That is pretty similar to what we are doing. We were doing Petes car at the time. So I copied it for Petes roll bar which is almost a direct knock off. And will gladly tell them.

Now this, this is stealing the Innovators roll bar...................

I have enjoyed seeing your renderings for quite a while now, and have always enjoyed looking at them. I'm sure I will call on you one day in the not so distant future for one of my own.

For those people who give you a hard time about, Who was the first to do one thing or the other, I would just tell them to, 'Pee up a Rope!', and continue to do what you do well. Poeple who do this in my opinion need to get a life of their own and move on.

Keep on keeping on, and please save a 1st gen Camaro rendering for me, as that is what I'm building also.

Made some more progress on the car. Shaved the doors, mirror, marker lights, and gills. Replaced the lower rear quarters, installed the front brakes and bolted up the wheels. The rears are just mocked up... ran out of time today to install the axles and rear brakes.

The dash is coming together and starting to take shape. It will wrap all the way along the doors and around the back behind the seats and then flow down into the console like it does in the front.

I know, lots of pics. It's been a busy week. I need to have the rest of the sheet-metal work done by Monday. That's a firewall, finish the floor, fab a custom rear tail panel, and flow the console up into the cap... It will be a LONG weekend! That'll mean lots more pics next week!

OK... so it's not Monday. Finally recouperated a little from the last two weeks. Turns out we didn't get all the metalwork finished... ran into a couple of snags and it wasn't worth 'rushing it'. We finished up the cap, made progress on the floor and console, roughed in all the body work, sealed it all up, installed the steering, installed the motor (not my taste... but cool to look at), and then took a big breath this morning at 10:30 when it left! It will be at an expo at the new Cardinal's Stadium (Phoenix Cardinals) in Glendale, Arizona this weekend.
The car will be back next week, and we can pull the motor, finish the metal work, line-up and gap the front-end, pull the body off the chassis, put it on the rotisserie, and do all the 'finish work' that's left... still a ways from completion!

I think thats what makes is so unique and appealing.... its a combination of two or three totally different styles..... but it works !

I am just not a fan of the engine sticking through the hood on anything really. Just my opinion.

the motor almost makes the car look small.....lol it should make awesome power though

Its just something we've never seen on this type of car and IMO thats what gives it the cool factor (in addition to all the well done fab work).

It's a cool look and will be unique. But I've had a 6-71 blown street Camaro, and you can't see around the thing! I received a few "obstruction of vision" tickets in the couple years I had that thing, and that was 25+ years ago. Nowadays in California they'd tow the car. Going to be interesting finding the apex! :D

Excellent craftsmanship though, car will attract a crowd.

To be honest, at first I was a little disappointed that the blown 540 was the powerplant of choice... I was hoping for something that fit under the hood and had a pair of turbos on it. To my surprise, I was actually pretty 'giddy' when I stood back and looked at the car once we dropped in the motor. It may not really 'fit' the car... or fit in it at that matter!, but it definitely looks unique. I think it 'works'.

The customers intent was to build a car that attracted attention. It will be used for advertising/marketing/and promotion for his business. A lot can be said about the whole combination, but we can all agree that everybody that walks by this car will have to stop and look!

And yes, it does have a pretty big 'blind spot'! I am sure there will be at least a couple tickest issued when this car gets driven... the 'obstruction of view' would be the least of his worries!:lol:

I think the fact that it's fuel injected helps tone down the "height" ! Had it have been naturally aspirated and had two carbs on top with a large "bug catcher" it would seem a little more out of place on a "touring" type car. But I am diggin the low FI profile !

This is the one I posted pics of a year-and-a-half ago... I am pretty fond of it too! It has a custom tube chassis, C4 at all corners, Shockwaves, and an LS1. It was the first complete build we ever did, and helped get our 'foot in the door'. It was the cover truck in Sept. 07 issue of Classic Trucks. The owner actually has it for sale. Thanks for all the compliments. We have a couple other trucks that could be considered to have a pro-touring theme... I will post up build pics of them in the future. Just so everybody knows... I am a truck guy. The cars are cool, but trucks are my thing.
