hey all,
just bought a new project car--65 biscayne, two door, car currently has a 468 big block in it. looking for some suggestions on suspension, induction, wheels, tires--any input and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. of course i'm going to be doing this car in the pro-touring style--that goes without saying......

been looking for a biscayne for six months or so and after seeing troy's at sema, was convinced that it would be my next project, much to the dismay of my other projects that will have to wait. just sold my 73 camaro PT and want a driver for the spring--so six months or so is the goal.
thanks, scott

I love those '65-68 2dr sedan B-bodies!!!

Unfortunately, there's not much available to make them handle. :(

Because of the size of a 65 Biscayne is kinda big,22's on the rears will look good.

This is my suggestion for wheels and tires.

Wheels SLC85 18x8 and 22x10

Tires BFG KDW2 245/45/18 and 305/40/22

IMO, 4" is way too much difference in diameters and is why Troy put 20s all the way around his Biscayne which is the baddest 66 B-Body of all time.
18s will have room all the way around them in front with a car that size and 22s will be stuffed in the rear.
Don't look at Troy's car as a difficult challenge to surpass but as a template for ideas and inspiration. Just a twist on some of his ideas with your favorite color and wheels and you can't lose!

anyone else remember Heavy Metal II, a 65 imp SS built by car craft in the early 90 ies... hotchkiss suspension and poly bushings, big swaybars and quality springs and shocks.. (airbags are not for cornercarving IMHO) add some big brakes, C5 ?? hydraboost and some big kinesis or simmilar race inspired wheels... i would stick with 18 inches to get some sidewall, you have the potential to make ALOT of power with that engine, and 22īs are for hummers and stunnas (learned a new word)

btw, there is a vid on nelson racing engines HP that shows an 66 imp with the look and stance i think you should aim for..

transmission wise... well i think i would add a 4l60e and a paddleshifter, now a days they hold up prety good under 700Hp, and if you want bulletproof then a 4l80e is the ticket

Troy put 18's and 22's on Bisquick and Chicayne.

You could go 19's on the front.but 18's will look fine.Just look at Chicayne, and I am pretty sure the 66 Troy did has 20's and 22's.

Air ride has come along way I used to be one of those "air ride won't handle" guys, but this summer changed my opinion.see the autocross by Air ride at some of the Goodguys changed my mind, and the Airride cars were faster than most the coil over cars.

A 66 b-body will never be a great track car.

No offense to Travis but that pic kinda makes my case. The rear wells are stuffed and the front wheels aren't even big enough to tuck and it has too much rake for me. But opinions are like............

A 66 b-body will never be a great track car.Why not? A B-body 2dr sedan is about the same weight as a 2dr hardtop Chevelle, and balanced better (all the extra weight is in the rear).

The only downside to building a B-body is the lack of aftermarket handling parts.

I have been thinking about my statement, wont chevelle parts work I thought they were kinda close to the same.

No, Chevelle chassis parts won't interchange. Everything is different.

The only "common" parts with an Impala, is that any rear disc setup that fits a Camaro/Nova/Chevelle, will also fit a B-body, and a Chevelle rear sway-bar will fit. Other than that, I'm not aware of any parts that interchange.

I'm doing a '61 Bel Air and put a Morrison chassis under it. I've been pretty happy with it, but it will still be a while before I get a chance to drive it. I'm thinking the rack and pinion, disc brakes, and lower center of gravity will make the car much more drivable, plus we set the engine back a few inches. I really like these '60s full size chevys.

Actually we just finished designing some tubular upper and lower control arms for the front. We redesigned the lower arm to an A-frame style arm, with an adjustable bearing on the frame end. Ton's of caster available. Chassis Works makes a Wilwood brake kit for the stock spindles as well.

We also have the front & rear sway bars w/ the new PosiLinks and rear trailing arms w/ adj. panhard bar. More images here.

IIRC, the rear upper control arms are the same as 67-72 a-bodies and the lowers are the same as g-bodies. Or it could be the other way around. Or I could be thinking of E bodies instead of B bodies.

Forget I even piped up. :willy:

Bulldog - can't wait to watch the build.

the chicayne had

Front: 19” x 8” with Nitto NT555 Extreme, size 245/35ZR19
Rear: 22” x 10” with Nitto NT555 Extreme, size 285/35ZR22

Hurrican

had a 295 40 20 on the rear - nice tire

can't remember the front

ps i personally would go with Air Ride, leave the motor and drive the heck out of it.
