Hi All,

I have a 67 camaro and I've just completed a six month complete tear down, new quarters (Full), paint......the whole nine yards. The seam sealer we used at the bottom of the rear window vertically down to the trunk, at the seam where the rear quarters come in, Has already cracked.

I know there is just about no way to keep it from doing so.....but it is back in paint for another try.

Does any one have any sugestions of what would look best? Would welding the seam crack? Or just using maybe very little sealer, so when it cracks it will be down in the seam????

Any ideas, it is getting very expensive......I will also have subframe connectors this time.

Thanks, Steve

I'm welding mine. I've seen other welded and it looks great to have them removed.

Standard body seam sealer will shrink & crack on a joint like that, we use a flexible bonding mastic (Sikkaflex) & never have any problems. This doesn't shrink with age/curing like seam sealer & will stay flexible enough to cope with any body flex. We carefully mask either side of the joint with tape, squirt the mastic into the joint & then wipe off the excess with panel degreaser (pre paint wipe) & remove the tape, leaving a factory finish prior to paint. If you want a factory finish this is the way to go. Hope that helps

3M Heavy Body seam sealer Part# 8308 it is a 2 part seam sealer that does not shrink and dries really fast.
