My Trans Am is at DSE for their new 2gen mini tub, frame connectors ect. I need to decide what wheels to get. It has TT2's on it now and since I have Fikse FM5s on the Camaro and Mustang, I want something different?? Or should I stay with TT2?

Hi S.W.

Love your second gen T/A. Is it the same one that had grey spokes a while back? Don't get me wrong I love a polished wheel but personally I think a two toned wheel would look awesome on your car. Polished lip, painted or powder coated center etc. Just my 2 cents.

I love the way your car looks with the 843r's, I have the same ones on my ZO6 in 19/20's..

Hello SW,
I think you have a great eye for the correct set of rims...

I would go with
1. HRE 847R
2. HRE 844R
3. Fikse Profil 10

Keep the pics coming

How about 843's, not the 843r.... give it a bit of old school look with a traditional lip but a modern feel with the wheel center design.

TT's with the painted centers look great, HRE's seem to be the wheel choice of the day. I'd go with Scott's chioce with the polished lip and contrasting brushed centers. Awesome cars SW and nice to get to talk to you at SEMA.

Well, I think with the interior color and your love for Fikse wheels it's only natural to go with FM/10's with Race Black centers, it would give it a timeless yet updated look...as you know I love that combo and those wheels!! :)

If you're mini-tubbing it, then definitely toss the TTII's. I think a set of mesh wheels with brushed spokes would look killer on that thing.

I agree with this^^^^
but I also know SW owns more than a few cars, so I think the decision isn't as big of a deal than someone with 1 car but I know that doesn't mean he doesn't care.

THe car looks way too original on the outside, I don't think fancy european 3 piece wheels are necessary although they'd look killer either way. I still like the classy look of the grey center TT"s. I woudl try to find something timeless and with a bit more classic touch to them. You already have a viper, Z06 and Ferrari all with modern euro wheels, how much modern do you need it to look?

I would like a lighter than black anodized finish like Kinesis wheels. Like a charcoal grey or something along those lines.

SW,

Does anyone make a more modern version of the minilites? I was thinking an 18" minilite/panasport (5 lug, of course) center with the three piece construction and deep dish...I don't know if they exist. Retro, yet still pontiac and new-tech.

Those would look bitchin' in 18 or 19" with gold centers, like stylized original T/A wheels, only bigger.
Jonny's Camaro and that nasty black Z06 look SICK AS HELL with the HREs and a hats off to both of you for not doing another 5 spoke. Same goes for you too, Bill!

You are right. On my previous Trans Ams, I always like the look of the WS6 8" honeycomb wheels. Like byebye said, Minilites look cool, but I don't think anyone is making them in a wide 18" wheel. I also agree about going with more of a grey or silver center instead of blk. Finding the "right" wheel for this car is not as easy as a Camaro, damn Pontiacs.. :). I am leaning towards a mesh type wheel similar to the old snoflakes. Just for fun, I'm going to ask Kyle if could take a couple of wheels off of Stacey's Camaro and see what the profile 5s look like..

thanks again for all the input,

It would be neat (if unlikely) to see someone design a modernized interpretation of the original honeycomb TA wheel center...in an 18" 3pc forged wheel.

These would look good with a brushed or anodized center grey. Or just leave the car with the grey TT's as it looks great as-is with them. Don't you have a mustang to work on? ;)

BTW the polished TT"s look awful IMO on that car

Steve Chryssos

I like to stand at the front corner of a car and look down the side to "see" the profile of the car. Then I try to match the cross section of the wheel to the car.
For example, a 67 Chevy II looks best with flat spokes, while a 68 Camaro--or your T/A for that matter--looks best with a slightly curved spoke profile.

Most cars have sharp, crisp edges and the edges of the wheel spokes should match. Your T/A has mostly rounded edges such as the way that your deck lid flows into your rear quarters or your shaker scoop.

A set of modern Mini-Lites would be hard to beat while the flat spokes of the Fikse FM5 might look bland surrounded by all those curves.

..or at least that is how I was taught by someone who knows their stuff.

I have a bad habit of thinking certain wheels look good on certain cars. Like, for example, your car. Personally, I think the Fikse Profil 13 would look great on the car. For the finish, I'd say the Techni Polish finish or the Speed Silver finish would look great.

Did I mention I still hate you? GOSH!!!! :P

You guys need to think out of the box a little more, SW already has Fikse's and such on his 69 camaro. This car needs something a little more less trendy and more geared towards something that goes along with the stock appearing outside which is immaculate IMO! The goldflake 3 piece wheel has already been thought of and done on a few "bandit" PT replicas already done or in the works, its a good idea though and would look good regardless, but I don't think they are it. I bet SW already has something on his mind. I think the minilites could be the trick if you could get a decent "dish" with them. This car needs something very tastefull, its a hard balance to keep. Everyone has already commented on how great the grey center TT"s looked, they really made the car look complete. I think I would stay somewhere along the lines of that look. But who knows either way I bet whatever wheel goes on there will look good

I'm kinda partial to the Vintage Wheel works V40's and V45's, I think the V40's would look great on there, fit the relatively stock/vintage style of the exterior perfectly. Not exactly a unique look, though, but not quite as common as the Torque thrusts.

I think mesh would be the way to go. I also think you should stick with a darker color center. I would go 18x12 rear and 18x8 front (assuming you have stock front subframe). Even though the car looks stock, this style wheel would definitely lean toward the road race look. Just my 2 cents. GO 2ND GENS!!!!!!

Ok, I talked with Steve R. and he suggested Forgeline like his. I
called them and they said it would take 6-7 weeks! I'm kinda on a time crunch so I called my guys at Fikse and they said they could build me a set of anything I needed in 2.5 weeks. I wanted something that looked like the old WS6 wheels and and for the first time, I ordered some FM10's. After seeing Anthony's wheels, I really like the "mesh" look.
