Hi,
Does anyone have a template or measurements for the Guldstrand mod on a 67 Camaro? There was an article in an issue of Popular Hot Rodding about the guldstrand mod (moving the upper control arm down and back), but I cant seem to find the issue. In this issue, it said that you can get the template from guldstrand motorsports free in there catalog. I have called them and requested three times but the catalog never arrives. They told me that the "free" as advertized in the Popular Hot Rodding article was a mistake and that it was $5 for the catalog. I said I had no problem with paying $5 for it, but the woman said no its ok, we will send you one for free.
In any case, I have never received the catalog and I am just wondering if anyone has the measurements for this mod.
Thank you...

I forgot to elaborate... The Guldstrand Mod is used to correct the geometry of the first gen Camaros. The stock suspension has a lot of understeer; using the guldstrand mod corrects this for free, because you move the mounting point for the upper A-arms down and back. This save you money on buying aftermarket A-arms that correct this issue. Of course, when Dick Guldstrand developed this mod tubular control arms did not exist. I have seen pictures of him racing, and his car is flat in a turn when the camaro behind him is having massive understeer problems.
Ok, anyways... Hope someone knows about it!

David Pozzi has a website with an area dedicated to first gens. Here is a page off his site about the guldstrand mod. Hope it helps:

Thanks William, exactly what I was looking for.
Yes, Google is cool and I use it every day. However Guldstrand.com is a basic html website that does not offer much more than a contact number and text only parts area. Oops I was wrong there are two pictures in the 67 - 69 Camaro parts area.

The G mod is a good thing but don`t be fooled into thinking it`s an all gain,no pain kinda thing. First off when you relocate the holes the arms will hit the top of the perchs so you`ll need to do quite a bit of reshaping (without taking too much strength/rigidity out of them). The G mod helps out some with + caster but not as much as different arms can,the perch just doesn`t have enough meat to move the holes that far. The only way around these two problems is to cut the whole perch off,cut it down and remount it in a new more idealized location. It`s best to make a jig to ensure that they end up in the right place. I`ve done it a number of times and it`s a lot of work but it you do it right it looks factory. The other issue is that when you lower the holes it adds + camber. Lowering the car also ads + camber. Even with the G mod you won`t start getting any - gain until it`s pretty low and then it`ll be very mild (but at least it won`t be + gain!). BTW we can achieve even larger gains with just a tall upper ball joint. At any rate when you go to align it you may not be able to get the specs you`d really like to have even with big stacks of shims. Offset cross shafts may be necessary to get any kind of decent performance alignment out of it. It varies from car to car and with ride height but you should be aware of it. Dick Guldstrand`s cars had stock *appearing* upper arms on them but that doesn`t mean they *were* stock dimensions and shape. :unibrow: I`ve modified a number of sets of arms myself and while they work fine and you`d never suspect by looking at them they all took a lot of time in design and fabricating work to get them just right.
I`m not trying to talk you out of it,just giving you a heads up on some of the technicalities. However you do it you`ll be taking the geometry from poor to at least indifferent. It can be made much better but you`ll have to spend on some new parts to do it. Mark SC&C

Hey Mark, Thanks for all of the info you have provided. I figured it was not as easy as drilling new holes and moving the arms. I'm actually not really making a G machine out of my 67, I'm more of a street / strip kind of guy. After all, I am planning on running ladders with coil overs in the rear. I just figured I may be able to get my car to turn a little better with the mod. Then again...... I do have 15 x 3 Welds on the front right now so.... I wont be making any fast turns in the near future.

It really doesn't sound like you are going to benefit from the Guldstrand mod due to the way your camaro is equipped. But the mod is free and only takes some drilling and cutting for clearance. I have the magazine article here: http://www.pozziracing.com/first_gen_suspension_geome.htm#Re-located%20upper%20mount
once the page loads, scroll down just a little and look for "part I " and "part II"
