stupid question. sometimes stuff for the front end of the early 70s are listed together.. sometimes the camaro is listed seperate. are the subframes on the trans-am /firebirds the same as the camaro from 70-73 or different? same questions for the suspension/steering/motor mounts. I realize the 400 mounts are different from 350 mounts.. but can i put 400 mounts on a 350 or just use the s/b 70 camaro mounts to bolt the chevy stuff in the trans-am? and if the suspension/steering is different.. is it dimensionally different or could i say bolt front tubular camaro arms into a trans-am?

I know this is probably dumb.. but the catalogs confuse me and i dont sure as hell dont have enough experience with them.

n/m got my answer.

just incase anyone searches and finds this thread or is watching and wants to know.

Everything works. suspension..motor.. whatever. as long as you use all the camaro stuff or pontiac stuff the subframes are identicle front and rear. so if you want a chevy 350 in a trans-am or a 400 in a camaro.. the only differences would be the motor differences.. ie the a/c compressor is mounted on opposite sides. but physically everything bolts right in.

There are some parts differences between the years on second gens. Idler arms are different spacing on the frame holes, I think there were three different types. GM used larger dia upper A arm bushings starting around 1974 up.

This deal is actually a complete mess. In addition to the things David noted, one of the big differences is the upper and lower control arm bushings. They changed them all over the place. 70 Camaros shared the same as 69 Camaros, but the 70 Firebird didn't. They changed the Camaro units to match the Firebird in 71 (lowers, if I recall), then they changed everything at least one more time.

It's important to know what year the SUBFRAME is when you look at this stuff, lots of them have been replced with units from the boneyard, etc, so you have to be a bit careful when ordering the goods.
