This is Charlie's new car that is being built in Detroit. It will have an LS9 engine and typical Pro-Touring treatment. Attached are some photos of the car at Autorama last year in bare metal. Reiter's Metal Craft in Mt. Clemens, MI did the metal and body work. It was awesome to see the car in 100% raw metal. I've used Reiter for 4 projects and I've always been happy with their work.
Joe Borschk did the cage and exhaust work at Katech. Joe is back in business for himself at Stenod Performance after being at Katech for awhile.
Over all, the car is turning out great. I'm managing the project for Charlie while I'm also working on my '69 Camaro.
Are those the new ZR-1 BREMBO calipers?? What color is it going to be?

Yes the brakes are Brembo ZR-1. They are very cool and work very well.
We are painting out some samples to sort out the color. The plan is to be in color by Jan 1.
Attached are a couple more photos including a LS9 intake mock up. It should all work well. We are finalizing the engine bay prior to paint. Ron Davis made a one off radiator for better cooling with integral oil and power steering coolers. The ICHE (Intercooler) is also upsized over the ZR-1 for better blower efficiency.
Joe does awesome work.
Can't wait a ride!
Are these calipers available through GM parts already??

Sorry, I just have to say that.

I'm really interested in seeing what the LS9 can do with the wick turned up. It's amazing to think that the box stock LS9 makes 638hp AND maintains a 100,000 mile warranty while meets all emissions targets.

clill

Whatever I can pack in there. No back seat, just a shelf to pile crap on and storage underneath. One thing learned on Power Tour is you always need something and there is never enough room in your trunk for all the crap that seems to show up.

The area in the trunk close to where the cage ties in is for added clearance for the exhaust around the DSE Quadra-link. Mark did the same thing in Camaro X.

It is an Art Morrison. We chose that to clear the stock LS9 accy drive. The DSE sub or stock sub would not allow the stock LS9 drive system due to the crossmember A/C comp problem.

Yes that was for exhaust. It will be Daytona Yellow.
Daytona yellow? Who picked this color? Mark usually has a great eye for color...My favorite is the first camaro he did...white with blue stripes.
This is Charley's car and Mark is overseeing the technical side of the build. I don't know that Mark has said what the color his new LS7 69 Camaro will be.
Scott,
I understand that this is Charley's car. IMO, Friends dont let friends paint cars yellow(I am not a fan of yellow). This car is on the same level, if not higher, as the mule. I can't imagine a badass yellow camaro. I thought I read a story where Charley thought the Audi silver Mark used on the Mule wouldn't work...I could be wrong about that. I'm sure this will be one hell of a car. I can't wait for some video of this car haulin the mail.

Well, Shawna's car. :D But I didn't figure anyone would know who that was. lol It's an awesome yellow.
I also thought the Alumin8r looked fantastic, but that had black stripes. Knowing Charley, Jackass won't have any stripes.
I guess a person has to be a fan of yellow, which you are not. For me, it's the color green. Never been a fan.
I'm hoping we have pics of Jackass in paint in the next few weeks.

I realize this car isn't going to wow any of the folks that like all the Billet and the dash/interior that look like modern cars. If I want a modern looking interior I can always rent a new Taurus or something. This car is meant to be a nice functioning car. I happen to like standard 69 door panels. Mark and I have kind of the same taste when it comes to bling on Camaros. I have street rods for bling. I had different samples for paint including a current Camaro yellow but I just think 69 Daytona yellow just looks the best on a 69 to me. There are plenty of cars that will out show this car at a car show but what will they look like after you drive them for 10K miles ? I wanna drive this car and not spend the weekend detailing, polishing etc.

I think this car will "wow" pretty much anyone that looks at it. I have to say, I like some bling on a car, but once you drive one that actually drives and performs good, all you want to do is drive, so I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of having more than one at a time right now, so I pretty much have to roll everything into one car. I have had a lot of fun with mine, but the next one will be all business. Can't wait to see this car come together and actually see it in person! If you need me to go check the progress from time to time, or make sure no one is slackin, let me know, I'm close:lol:

Hi Charlie, The whole idea of Yellow makes me smile. For years I have painted my vehicles Yellow and they always bring smiles to peoples faces. Some hate yellow but that's them.
Even the fastest Ferraris have been known to be Yellow and not Red. the privately raced Ferraris are either Black ,Yellow or White from the info I have seen.
It will be a beautiful car when done and maybe now as some have said, they just might start to have a reason to like it!
I look forward to seeing it in person someday next year !!!!

I've always liked Mark & Charley's build styles...Subtle, yet brutal. It's nice to see another one in the works & also nice to see some Michigan shops doing good.

Are these brakes available through GM yet?? I would love to get a set!!
rwhite692
01-27-2009, 11:08 AM
GM's MSRP on the ZR1 brake components is $12,183
Gene Culley is currently quoting $8,999
This includes four calipers, four rotors, 4 sets of brake pads.. (ZR1's are 1 set of brake pads per wheel, and the calipers and pads do not come with the caliper pin kits.)
Some are of the opinion that these brakes, if not used with the corresponding electronic controls, might not perform all that much better than the current C6 ZO6 setup (as Scott has on his car).
There just isn't much data on how they would perform when retrofitted to something like an older musclecar, and operated without the controls... yet.
There are definately lot of things to consider, apart from just bolting them up...of course you need at least a 19" wheel...
Here are a few, from the Corvette Forums:
Be aware that if you track a car with Carbon/Carbon or Carbon/Ceramic brakes you MUST use/make further modifications due to the higher operating temps.
The ZR1 required different front spindle bearing assemblies, due to the extreme heating generated in the rotor. So, plan on changing hubs and spindles.
The brake fluid used MUST have a DRY Boiling point above 600*F. There are ONLY 3 choices currently available. WET boiling point is a concern but is secondary:
Make / DRY BP F* / WET BP F*
AP PRF 660 / 608*F / 390*F
GS 610 / 610*F / 421*F
Wilwood EXP / 626*F / 417*F

You might want to but the plactics gaurds on the brake rotors that GM has. they said to use them when the wheels are off a ZR1. they say that they can chip easy and once that happens they are junk. just somthing that i read in the tech article that they send to the dealers. LOOK GREAT
EDIT found the GM service guide. it says that each ZR1 was shipped with one set of rotor protectors, they are blue foam pieces.you can get sets threw your GM ( chevy ) dealer threw GMSPO (general motors special parts order). or it says that you can geta 25.4mm (1in) foam pipe insulator can be used if you dont have a set of the protects. the protector should be slid over the rotor before the wheel is removed just in case the wheel may come incontact with the rotor.

Looks great! Just curious, what type of coating is used in the trunk? Thanks.

Dupli color trunk spatter with a clear coat over it, we are also triming the trunk mat to finish off the trunk floor. we hung the doors today and started installing the side glass. looking more like a car every day!!
