Hi Mark,
Can you please elaborate on the fan? It looks like a 6th Gen Camaro 850 watt fan, but with a custom shroud...More information would be appreciated.

Mark, how do you normally run the brake hoses and wheel speed sensor wires to the rear axle for the ABS? Do you drop them all near the center section and run them along the axle like GM routed the brake lines on these cars originally, or you you drop each side down independently near the hubs like many late model cars with IRS do?
Just asking because I'm adding ABS to my car, and trying to decide how best to run things to the rear hubs and calipers. I'm leaning towards dropping both brake hoses and the speed sensor wires above the center section and then running them down the axle tubes to the rear hubs.

The rear brake lines run down the sides outside the frame rail.
The wiring comes off the ABS module as twister pairs. Goes through a bulkhead connector the interior. Those wire join the rear compartment wiring harness that has the tail light, fuel pump…
The rear wheel speed wires (twister pair) pass through to a harness on the rear axle. At the connector we swap from normal wire (twisted pair) to a tougher encapsulation wire that goes the wheel speed sensors.
The OE style encapsulation wiring is hard to find and I had to purchase 1000 feet of it to get some. Nice stuff.
I’ll get a photo soon

We are back and forth on paining the LS engine to make is look like a 375 HP 396. Or leave it raw aluminum like a fake ZL1.

So you're dropping it at the sides near the hubs like a late model and then running a flexline right to the calipers and the wheel speed sensor wires right to the hub... thanks!
Makes more sense than running everything to the top of the center section and then down along the axle tubes like the 50 year old OEM layout-- especially when I would have to snake the lines and wires over watts link brackets, sway bar brackets, and then worry about maintaining adequate clearance between the hard lines and speed sensor wires to the tailpipes at full suspension compression. Dropping them at the sides keeps them out of the way of all of the rear end brackets and also the hot exhaust.

We used the Holley mounts. It is in the “stockish” location. Not as far back as some of the other cars. A little farther forward to make it easier for wiring and bellhousing bolts.

That is the plan to have a street 3 point belt set up and a 6 point for the track. We have not designed it yet.
If it is a hassle I’ll go back to what I have always used. A 6 point set up and just wear the lap belt on the street.

We had a plastic elbow break under dash in the heater lines on a past project. We have move to stainless steel. I bit overkill but I would be shocked if it failed.
All the BS because I wanted to keep the BBC heater line location out of the heater core box.

This thing is so good! Question: will you be using a GM ecu tuned for speed density or something like a Holley to control this thing? I'm currently putting together a retro look LS and was curious.

We are using Holley. It seems sorted and fairly straightforward.

Hey Mark , question regarding headers . Have you in previous builds used the Detroit speed headers , matched to their subframe ? If so , what’s your opinion on fit and quality . If not, do you have a go to for a specific one ?

Hey Mark, do you typically run the same brake pad for both street and track days?
If so which one?
Thanks
The Detroit Speed subframe works well with a 18x10 front with a 20 mm offset or 6.25 backspacing. The rear we ordered a 18x12 with the most backspacing that Forgeline could do in there forging. Off memory it as 19 mm offset 7.25 backspacing.
I think I will have 2 sets of brakes for this car. The track setup with the Brembo and Monoblock Forgeline wheel (Pictured below). To keep with look of the car I’m going to order new Forgeline OE wheels that will take poverty cap hub caps. For the OE style wheel I’ll need to run stock C6 Corvette brakes. For just cruising around the OE black steel looking wheels will work well.

If you need to use one pad use a HP1000 Ferodo material. It is a good mix of street and moderate track usage. If you are going to hit the track hard I have had great luck with Pagid pads. Brake pads, calipers and rotors are a personal choice. There are a lot of good companies and parts out there. I’m just going off my experience. There is not 100% right best answer, every application is a little different.

Ferodo DS2500 Brake Pads - Padlets
HP1000 possibly discontinued?
Pad choices for C6 Z06 are somewhat limited because of the funky padlet design for those calipers.
The DS2500 is a street plus moderate track pad. I used them on my C7 vette for a couple of track days, they worked OK. They were quiet on the street, but like all performance pads were more dusty than the OEM pads.
If you're a newer track driver doing autoX or a couple of HPDE per year on street tires, the DS2500 may work OK. More experienced drivers running a car like the Z06 on multiple track days a year, and/or with stickier tires, typically swap to a specific track pad with matching rotors on track days. Like Mark said, it depends.
You might look in the autoX and road racing section of the Corvette forum: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/autocrossing-and-roadracing-23/ Lots of experience there.

The extra connector is to add the missing sensor so you can do a Tech 2 ABS bleed. A Tech 2 ABS bleed is where you use a GM diagnostic tool to activate the valves in the ABS module to get the air out.

We took all the stock 1969 bolts and had the stripped and zinc plated. A place in Mai will do is for fairly cheap money.
We strip and plate a lot of parts. Easy maintenance and they look great.

In the past I had to get SKF to custom make me wheel bearings with the “ZR1” style bearings. MPI make a “Big Bearing” that had the larger two row ball bearing, the bigger ZR1 splined internals and passive wheel speed sensors.
For people not attempting to use 2008 and older Corvette ABS this is not an issue. If you are like me, then these are perfect and cheaper then the SKF “Big Bearing”.

The grill that came with the car was a little busted up. Luckily I had a nice one in stock at home. I think it is a repo, but it fits nice. We are taking the car to Boris later in July to get some touch up painting done. He said he can match the patina.

A lot to be said for driver quality paint versus show car paint.... That's the main reason i'm holding off painting the Camaro, then i'd be afraid to drive it.

One of the parts I have used on 69 Camaros since 1993. 1990-1993 Caprice fuel/license plate frame. It flips down like a 69 Camaro one, excepts it toggles over and stays in a 90 degree angle while you are filling. I used to get them out of junk yards for $3. Now on EBay they are $35.

When you build a lot of Camaros you get to regift parts. I found this driveshaft in my atic. Matt and I took a few minutes to sort out where it came from. When we swapped the engine and sub frame in Jackass the engine was moved rearward requiring a new driveshaft. So this is to old driveshaft out of Jackass 1.0 from around 2007. Look honey I’m saving money….lol

Haven't had a '94-6 B-body in a few years but the plate bracket ought to be the same for those years as well.

Yes Forgeline can build them to fit the 6 piston C6 Z06 brakes. You will need to go to a thinner outer wheel half. I did the base slider C6 brakes to get a more “stock” look. I pulled the hub cab back as far as I could with the widest outer wheel half I could do.

I just rode with him in the Indy 500 Pace car for a couple laps at the track at speed. 155 into the turns ? Piece of cake... Actually kind of boring because he is so smooth. There are smooth drivers and frantic drivers... Smooth is mo better...
I'll re-word it... you wouldn't ride with him on that track day at Thunderhill.

I use G-Body sport mirrors. They are remote operated from the factory. They have a cable on them stock. I make new mechanical parts for them to make them manual adjustable.

I have been using the .63 because it is more fun for road tours when you are in the mountains.
If you live in KS and you want better fuel economy get the 0.5. The engine rpm drops a lot but makes the 4-5-6 gear spacing large.
With the big gear rpm drops the engine is lugging or spinning up. It is a personal preference deal.

Mark, did you go with the close ratio and have D&D do the .50 swap on this build?
D&D can give you the tight ratio 1-5 and add a 0.5 6th. This works great with a blower motor with a ton of torque because it can pull the 3.25 rear gear and the OD. For this build with a stock LS7 I closely copied the 2014 Z/28 with a tight 1-6 and a 3.73 rear gear. It will turn a little bit more RPM at 80 but should drive great.

A new car usually has some issue. Hobbs suffered from a soft brake pedal. So we swapped the master cylinder. Nope. I call my ex-Dephi buddy and he said the ABS module is not the issue. So we tried a bunch of bleeding a rotating the calipers and still a soft brake pedal. We did an ABS stop and the LH side tires would lock. I have an extra ABS module so we put that in. All good now.

I did my first Cars and Coffee deal this past weekend in Birmingham, MI. It was great to get the car out and see old friends.

The car drives great! The Holley engine cal is very good. The trans is great as well as the clutch. The Holley power steering pump is horrible. I have a new one coming from Turn One. The Dakota Digital dash turned out very nice. Great functionality.
We might have over achieved on making it quite. I did not think it was possible. But my wife did not hear me start the car and leave the neighborhood.
Some other small tunings items to work on also.

It will loud-up a bit after hammering on it a while. Supercharging speeds up the process so you might have to throttle-up more often ;-)

I’m an old development engineer that is what I have done most of my life. This is part of the normal development process. We moved way off the recipe and it turned out different. No big deal. I’ll try another set of mufflers and if I don’t like them we will try another.
When I first built the 88 Blazer it had a mild cam in it. Everyone loved the loopy idle. I did not. I swapped it and love it.
It is a process and my tastes have shifted over the years. The car is fantastic and with a few small tweaks I’ll like it better.

What didn't you like about the power steering, Mark? I'm considering the Holley mid mount setup for my C10. It's just a cruiser and not a performer at all.
Glad you were able to get the car out this year and enjoy it some before the snow sets in. Enjoy the tweaking!

Being able to hold conversations on the highway cruising without raising my voice, but coming to life under hard acceleration with authority define the perfect balance for a pro touring car IMHO. Of course I wouldn't want someone to think it's an EV idling at a stop light either :)

I have used the Holley mid-mount on a few builds with no issues, works great. The rumor is they switched the Holley power steering pump supplier to some Chinese knockoff. I ordered a Delphi GM pump from Turn One. We are installing that this week. I’ll let you know if that fixes the noise issue and the lack of assist at idle.

The trans is great as well as the clutch.
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see which clutch you used in this build - is it the Tilton dual disc here too?

I remember you saying you were very happy with the factory setup with that power level. If that's what you had in Camaro X I agree, great feel.

I finally got to drive the car a bit before Christmas. The steering feel at highway speeds is great. Still makes a small amount of noise at parking lot speeds. Like pulling into a parking spot or turning the wheels not moving.

Please let us know how the new Dakota Digital Velocity cruise control kit works. I'm been thinking about adding cc to my car (with Holley EFI/DBW) and this seems to be the solution.
Thanks.

I finally got to drive the car a bit before Christmas with one nice dry sunny day. With a little tinkering I was able to get the cruise to work fine. I ran out of the day to do a full evaluation. I used it on the hiway at 80 mph with now issues and also at 50 mph on a normal road. Work great. It is a little clunky at 40 mph but who need cruise at 40? I was just doing a sweep of speed.
Once the weather breaks in MI I’ll get out and try it more.
I’d does have a cool Bluetooth app that allows you to make set up changes. Over all another great Dakota Digital product.
A couple example set up screens.

Mark can you please share the part number for the upper radiator hose. I have recently installed the Holley Mid Mount and the Acdelco 22842M hose is a bit short.

Someone earlier in the thread asked about the fuel tank vent system. You replied that you would show it once you had it worked out. Do you have a solution for this now on the Hobbs Camaro?
Also, wondering what the bore size of the 2002 F-Body clutch master cylinder is that you are using on your builds?
Thanks,

I finally got the Camaro on the road. Like most of these projects… it had gear whine.
I tried a 12 bolt this go around because that was original to the car.
The only gear I could find at the time was a repo 12 bolt gear. I think is it was a Strange.
I’m looking for a real GM 12 bolt gear. Prefer 3.73 but a 3.55 will be good also.
I’m putting out the I need help beacon on Lat-G and maybe someone has one or knows where one is.
Other than that the car runs great!!
