Hey everyone,
Is there a rule loosely followed when sizing tires rear versus front diameter difference?
Looking to buy tires in the next couple of weeks and would like a 295/40-18 for the back and 245 or 255/40-18 for the front.
So i am looking at 27.3 for the back vs 25.7-26.0 for the front.
Thanks

I must not have worded my question correctly?
I did look at several of the forgeline gallery pictures and it appears most are sized about 1" difference.

I don't know about any rule, but mine usually end up 1/2" to 1" taller in the rear than the front. No issues.

It depends on the vehicle and the look you're going for really, Joe. Way too many variables involved to provide any guidance other than make sure it goes with the look you're after. Never go smaller diameter in the rear is the only rule I would say.

Just my 2 cents.
I always look at the different heights of the fender cut outs. On most cars and trucks the front wheel opening is taller in the front than in the rear. If you lower it and give it the ole muscle car rake, a 1" taller rear usually looks the best in my opinion but, it all depends on the vehicle. Some times you may need to go taller than 1" in the rear to fill the fender wells.
With all that said....to each their own. Everyone has their own ideas and views.

A little off topic but still relevant...
If it's a muscle car type build, I like to see a decent sidewall on the rear tires...but that is not the trend of late, it's very popular to run a giant rear wheel with almost no sidewall. I am both old, and old school.
