View Full Version : Studs for seat brackets?

I’d like to install studs in the floor to mount my front seats to, instead of bolts. Access is very tight under the seat and the sliders are difficult. Has anyone done this?
I’d envision something resembling ARP header studs, with nut/washer on top. Is there any reason that studs would be more subject to shearing? Any other safety issues?
Thanks in advance.

I've done exactly what you mentioned. I didn't use ARP. I just what I was able to get locally. I also used a locking washer. So far it is easier to drop the seat on instead of digging through carpet.

GM & Ford used studs instead of bolts starting in the early 80's so shouldn't be any safety related issues with studs.

That’s exactly my thought, to avoid digging through the carpet and just dropping the seats over the studs. Do you remember the size?

I'm sorry, I don't. I can try and look later today if I get a chance or tomorrow.

Hopefully you are talking about screwing studs into the existing factory seat mounting locations

Most GM cars have 5/16 x 18 bolts

I just did the grade 8 bolts, cut the heads off and made studs for my seats, grade 8 washers and nuts.
