I started this project about 2 years ago. I wanted a a low static ride height truck on 22's that would handle with big power.
My concept: 66 Chevy C10. I call it a Cgt.

I got Dale Gerry to build a frame for me. I wanted a low static ride height on 22's
with big power. Dale built me a mostly complete frame that I modified here and there. 9 inch with 4 bar. C6 spindles 1 1/4" front sway bar, 1 1/8" rear

I painted the frame and powder coated the suspension pieces. I am working out of my poor mans paint booth on assembly so I can't paint the remaining pieces I need done until I get the truck rolling. My Mom moved into my assembly room /suite and my other two bays have my Tourliner and 34. It sucks not having enough space.

Thank you. I have always liked these trucks. I like them modified but don't want to change the stockish charm if you know what I mean. Here are some pictures of the interior in progress. Dakota RTX dash with stock A/C vents, but with vintage air. The dash is essentially stock looking but I went with black accents for the
"GT" look. Radio is a stock unit, but I had it reworked to control the Audison amp/dsp which powers 2 10" subs, 2 6.5" mids and tweeters. Purists will scream when they see I have cut my virgin doors for speakers but with these trucks you don't have much room and I didn't want kick speakers. There will be grills that match the door panels so you won't actually see them. Modified Budnik wheel, Column shifter with paddles. A/C controls and glove box will be black.

I put this on the EFI and super charger section but thought I would try here also. I am trying to build a custom air intake/airfilter but cannot meet the specs that GM lays out for the MAF location. They want straight 4" pipe 6"(min) long with the MAF in the center and 10" away from the throttle body. With my intake the most I could get is 2" before the MAF of straight pipe and 1" after, but packages very nicely. I am pretty close to 10" away from the throttle body. I could just pipe down the front of the engine and exceed their specs but it would not be as cool. How critical is it? Deal breaker?

My experience with it is on the LS3 I put in my wifes FJ40. Using a blade type MAF, I was trying to take advantage of an open area to locate it in but got too close to the elbow (about 4"...). It would start fine but not idle...unless you unplugged the MAF.
It definitely needs at least the 6" of straight air BEFORE the MAF...not sure how critical it is after.

Should have kept it. I have a '64, '67/8, Squarebody dually, & a CC OBS '99. Having 4 consecutive generations of Chevy trucks is not a bad thing (other than finding room to keep them)....

Tried to start my crate LT4.... not a sputter. Fuel pump ramps up and I have fuel at the engine. ECU gives me a PO 00006 code, from which is suppose to be for a fuel shut off valve. Can see nor smell fuel on plugs. On the back of the engine I know of two plugs one on each side for the injectors and one other on the drivers side that looks like its for the intake (maybe pressure)? Anyone know where this valve is located? Is there a plug for it?

I see in the GM manual it makes mention of a "soak and idle" which is to connect the battery for 8 hours before starting. "Turning on the ignition for any length of time may cause you to have to soak an additional 8 hours". I didn't do the soak. Could that be the issue?
vet57air

Got it running this morning. I had cleared the active code PO 00006 yesterday.
So I imagine it was that or it needed the "8 hour soak and idle".

I read it in the erod LT4 manual. It is not very clear, but seems that they want the battery hooked up to the ecu for at least 8 hours without turning the ignition on. From the little info I could find it sounds like it gives the ecu time to do diagnostics.

Going to give the truck a final buff and detail, then wax. Researching there are a few new options. Ceramic, grapheen ceramic to name a couple. Not sure if they are worth it on a truck that will likely never see rain and always stored indoors. I have been using Meguires for years and am leaning to their "Ultimate". What are you using?

I personally use AMMO NYC products on my cars and love them... the owner of the company Larry Kosilla has great Youtube channel as well showing you how to use all of his products. I got into detailing by watching his videos and have been supporting him ever since.
That being said, detailing products are getting so good nowadays that you really can't go wrong. I used Turtle Waxes new products recently on my daily driver and loved the results!

05-05-2021, 09:03 AM
After a lot of research I am going with my tried and true Meguir's 2.0. I believe the Ceramics are superior, but in my application where I Colour sand then polish then wax.......then find more colour sanding scatches, so do more buff and wax and so on and so on, I think the conventional wax is the way for me to go.

Other than the subs installed it still looks the same. I am waiting on my upholstery guy to give me a call to take the truck up to finish, hopefully in the next week or two. The 10" sub's are made by Audison. As are my mid's, tweeters and amp/dsp. I just roughly used the dimensions of the stock fuel tank as a guide for the outside measurements and then used Audison's specs for the sub's idea volume to create each box.

Thank you. My vision for this build was to have the latest tech, engine, drivetrain, suspension and creature comforts, but not lose the look and charm of the original truck. Of course this is always a compromise and is different for each of our own tastes. With the sound system I tried to create the "center stage" with the tweeter and mid speaker placement. The compromise was I used the stock radio as the head unit. It has been reworked with all new internals and has preouts, bluetooth, USB etc. I have tried it and it sounds pretty good. It will get better once the dsp has been tuned.

Yea my struggle with radio is the previous owner cut mine for single DIN. dont love it, but it's in place.
If i go to replace that it's a spiral of how far do i want to take it? Buy a double din insert and put a screen in which is probably what i would WANT to do, but it doesn't fit well with the factory center AC positon. Vertical space runs out quick. So many options to look at, and trying to choose what's "best."

You haven't posted anything about the truck in a long time. Have you finished it? If so could you post some pics of it finished? This is a very nice project and a great example of detailed work.

He finished it & then re-worked some stuff already (things/parts quality he wasn't 100% happy with).
