Hi guys,

Just bought a 1969 camaro. So excited, but it has some enormous 18" wheels that I cant even turn while driving. Anyways, they gotta go.

I want to go with 17" rallys, but for the life of me cant find any with the 4.75" and 5.25 backspacing everyone is saying is needed. Am I going to have a problem running 17x8 4.5" BS in the front and 17x9 5" BS in the rear?

Only two companies make this combo and its Wheel Vintiques and Rev Wheels 107 series.

I was thinking of running 245/45/17 and 275/40/17, but people are saying that I should instead go with 235/45/17 and 255/45/17. Will it still look pretty with the latter?

The look I'm trying to achieve is one that I found on here by Ross Dorn. Ive done countless searches but am unable to find what brand wheel and tire combo he is running. Any ideas? This is his car.

He said they were Wheel Vintiques, and he ran the 245's and 275's without issue. Couldn't remember the backspacing but on their site 4.5" front and 5" rear is the most they make. By the way, they may be for sale soon.

Geez! Directly from the person himself! Wasn’t expecting that

Thanks. That’s exactly what I needed to know.

Crap. Hope Im not being a pest now...

Wheel Vintiques only lists the 17x7, not 17x8, with the 4.75 bolt pattern and 4.5 backspacing. Is that right for the front with 245/45/17??

That would leave the rear as the 17x9 4.75 bolt pattern and 5 inch backspace with 275/40/17

Is there any way to confirm this? Again, sorry if I'm being a pest. I'm just ready to place the order. Cant drive my new beauty with these huge 18's.

Are these steel or billet wheels?

I just looked up Wheel Vintiques on Summit Racing's website & there was a 17x8 dual pattern w/4.5" BS listed:

It's possible the website listing @ WV is incorrect for that particular size.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I called them this morning and they do make a 17x8 in 4.5BS, its just not listed on their website.

Either way, in the picture above, the owner must have done something custom because Wheel Vintiques confirmed that their silver wheel is painted entirely silver, and the chrome version is entirely chrome.

I want it silver in the center and polished on the lip, just like the photo I attached.

I can always go with the REV Wheels 107. It looks very similar and comes in the same sizes. Either way, this is the predicament I'm in now.....Do I go...I'm hoping 3 or 4 is an option even if I decide to lower the car a bit later.

1. 17x7 - 4" BS 235/40
17x9 - 5" BS 275/40

2. 17x8 - 4.5" BS 235/45
17x8 - 4.5" BS 255/45

3. 17x8 - 4.5" BS 235/45
17x9 - 5" BS 255/45

4. 17x8 - 4.5" BS 245/45/17
17x9 - 5" BS 275/40/17

You're better off w/the REV 107 wheels as they're lighter (aluminum) vs steel & come w/either a polished or silver center & polished lip that mimics a trim ring.

As for the sizes.... Same size front & rear on a modifed car I just don't get unless it's because you can't possibly stuff any more rubber & you're wanting a 'square' set-up for track purposes. For a street car, staggered sizing always looks better to me.

Yeah, staggered for sure. That's why I'm hoping #3 or #4 is an option.

I think I may have a local guy who can help me out tomorrow. I've been to a couple wheel places already and they didn't seem very confidant when I was asking them questions.

That's why I was hoping to maybe find someone here who's familiar with a '69 camaro guide me. I think I've hit every web page there is on every forum trying to figure this out.

Have you found your wheels yet and if so, how did they work out? If you didn't, my understanding is that you need just a little positive offset on first gens . I have a 68 convertible and I'm thinking of getting the Vision 55 Rally in 8.5x18" with +10mm offset front and rear. 235's on the front and 255's on the rear. The offset should (according to most on the forums) center the tire in the wheel well.
