My actual project is not a pro touring
Just a muscle car with somes modern touches and to go at the dragstrip
I just want to know if it got some interest here before posting all my work.

Can you post how the lower seems from quarter to rear panel came out? both sides level and what was gap?
Like how you got the trunk line perfect using a cut on quarter. and the metal on roof to quarter is way better than lead fill. Mine has a small crack in it. Not sure I can weld it up as well as you did. You have probably been doing this for a long time by the quality of the work.

I didnt take pic of that for the moment but this gap is a little more than 1/4. I will work on this later.

Awesome! Since you choose to replace the roof lead, wonder if you would share your decision process? I've heard solid arguments both ways. Mine seems to be pretty solid, no cracks or separation, so I've been advised (by a pretty conservative paint expert) to leave it alone. Wonder your thoughts.

its just a preference for me. I prefer steel over lead but I'm not a body repair expert.
Time will tell if I take the good choice.
Some guy here use all metal, so I think lead or sheet metal is definitely a better choice.
Btw, I will be happy if my car is half cool of yours, your built impress me.

I think it will clear my lower shock mount brackets. I will measure it and if it clear I will relocate my previous fuel lines.

I change my mind a little and decide to go for a more pro touring style but still on leafs. I hope that the leaf will give me a little bit of race feeling.

More to come soon.

Thanks for interest, it give me a lot of motivation

I plan to use speedtech road assault front kit.
Any suggestion for the rear sway bar size?
3/4, 1 or 1 1/8 inch size.

From my measurements I got 34-35'' between my shock mount plates.
Maybe the plate will need a little trim to clear but I think it will fit

I will use dse leafs that came in my minitub kit. I will use the quadralink sway bar and I will fab custom mounts to bolt it on the diff. Im not sure that it will help on handling but I prefer to remove it than install it when the floor will be painted

I don't think you'll be able to use half height subframe bushings with that tunnel piece. I tried using it on my car which has half height subframe bushings. It wouldn't fit my already modified tunnel which I kind of expected. However, I ended up cutting way further forward towards the firewall to get the floor to clear the transmission in the end. Had Holley's piece fit my floor, I would have had to modify it further. It's a good looking piece for sure.

streetbird
06-07-2020, 08:14 PM
I have regular solid bushing. I see some guys running it without problems with hooker crossmember and mounts

linenoise
06-08-2020, 11:12 AM
I used that same trans tunnel metal part. Full bushings and no issues. its close on front part of tunnel you do not cut. do not think half heights would clear like said previously.
clean job on that btw. getting it to fit flush and all is a little work.
What are you going to use as top plate?

streetbird
06-08-2020, 06:22 PM
I will use a billet boot ring directly on the tunnel with a sheet of 18ga to fill the hole. All bolted with rivnuts to keep access to the top of the transmission. I will do that in a week or two

Great work. I always check this thread first when I visit LATG.

IS that some sort of truck bed lining spray on the undercarriage? The DP90 you mentioned earlier. I wish you were my neighbor. LOL. Having your build next door would light a fire under my ass to start back up on mine.

thanks,
Jim

2 coat of ppg dp90 primer
sand it 180 and scuff red scotch brite
did my seam sealer with sem 2 parts
reseal it with an other coat of dp90 and topcoat with raptor liner

spayed it with devilbiss plus 1.8 tips
25lbs air pressure
reduce by 15% in my case due tu smaller tips

Dse lower control arms need 9/16 bolt.
Instruction tell to use a unibit but I wasnt able to drill the hole on the rear mount.
I use a 9/16 drill bit. Shank side was 1/2. I welded it on a 1/2 rod and it worked real good.

I’m glad I waited so long to check on this build. You got a lot done since the last time I checked. What brand door skins did you use? How was the quality? Did you use any skinny tools(to flatten the lip) or just a hammer and dolly? What brand hood? Sorry for all of the constant questions, but your experience will hopefully help me. I have a bunch of AMD panels and am hopeful that they are reasonable to fit up, but I’m not really holding me breath either. LOL

I really dig the pics with your kids. They will look back on these pictures once they are older with fond memories. Knowing they helped dad with his car. Good times. Enjoy it. It goes by fricken too quick.

Keep up the awesome work,
Jim

doors skin are dynacorn, fit great. I use a regular hammer and dolly to start folding the lip and a cheap modified doors skin hammer to finish.

Wow June seems so far away. I would take this time to mock up everything in the car and get as much done as possible while the car is in metal.

I would install the motor, trans, suspension, radiator, master cylinder, brakes and start running all of the lines including all of the wiring. It's not fun drilling holes in a freshly painted car.

Looking back I wish I would have built the entire car including the interior and then taken it apart and to do the paint and body work.

some goodies for my late christmas
I had some difficulties to ajust my hood with the worn hinges and my rebuilt doors hinges still had some play.
I ordered me a gift from ringbrothers.

And the surprise. One hinge is incomplete and missing some parts.
It was friday and I contacted them. In less than one hour I received a response from them. Monday they shipped me an other hinge and a t shirt and received it the next day.

I am really impress with their customer service, I think they earn a good highlight.

here is the billets masterpieces
