I'm finally going to build a mustang and found this nice solid car. It came in this morning and by 4pm we had the whole drivetrain out. It will be going to the bodyshop on tuesday. I really wanted to paint it black, but I'm thinking red also..

My favorite year Mustang...I was always partial to the yellow/orange with black stripes. Black would look great though!!!

Nice find SW -

See, you waited a little longer and got what you want. That car looks very clean. Now let the fun begin. I'm partial to red, with maybe a black stripe down the hood. Would fit right in your garage...

Wheels are already on order..Fikse FM5's

Built motor, 5spd, shaker hood, factory guage pack with factory tach, no a/c, tilt wheel, rack and pinion, maybe total control suspension or Global West, shaved antenna, front& rear spoilers, no slats, Cobra brakes or Baer's.
I kinda want to have a matching look to the Camaro.

What do you guys think about me leaving the factory hood pins, should I leave them or take them off?? I kinda like them but not sure if they take away from the "clean look".

Obviously, it is a personal taste issue, so do what you like.

As far as options, I fought with that for my car, since I am forced to use hood pins. If you decide to keep them, you may want to look into getting them red/black anodized or red/black powder coated or even "unpolished". That way they still function and things stay relatively "clean".

SW nice score! The car looks real solid  Glad you waited and will build it your way, you've got really good taste when modding your cars.

I think it would look killer in Black as well, and I kinda like the hood pins. Maybe anodize them black like Bruce suggested.

Have you considered aerocatch (http://www.aerocatch.com/index.html) style hood pins?

Blown353
09-03-2006, 05:05 PM
maybe total control suspension or Global West

Having driven both I'll throw a vote in for TCP/Alston. It looks cooler and more importantly handles a little better IMO. The GW setup is no slouch though.

That being said the last 2 TCP lay down coilovers I've assisted with in 'Stangs had goofed rear end housings. On both kits one side had the axle tube 1/4"-3/8" shorter than it should have been.

The only downside with the TCP laydown coilover rear setup is that it makes it darn near impossible to run the exhaust out the back.

Thanks for all the info guys, it really helps. I'm going to try and not get too carried away with this car like I did with the Camaro. I just want to make it a nice "driver" with killer paint and a nice simple suspension set up. I may just go with aftermarket control arms, lowered rear leafs and rack& pinion set up.

I'm also thinking about deleting the heater system all together since it will be cruising in good weather only. I hate to say it, but I never use the heat or a/c in the Camaro or T/A..

I have decided to paint it blk for sure.. :D

You live in Austin and you never use the AC? WOW You must not drive in the summer time. I believe you but that dosent make sence to me. I love Austin, I lived there for 1 year, but the summers are hot. Anyway very cool project. I bet you most of us started our projects saying we weren't going to get to carried away, but they have a tendancy to escalate. a fried of mine has a orange boss 302 he just bought at an auction. They are beautiful cars. I like how the stripes are reflective and look almost white at night.

I'm liking the clean theme SW. Black is going to look great and with the FM5's and the right stance it's not really going to need much more!

71NOVA, I plan on driving it in the evenings and during nice weather only. If I can't stand it, I can always add Vintage air later.

Here are some pictures from this afternoon. The last picture is of a '70 at the my bodyshop guys place. I'm thinking about shaving the drip rails like on this car, what do you guys think? It's off to the bodyshop in the AM..

Leave the drip rails. Shaving ruins the classis lines of the car IMO.
Paint MUST be red.
While your at it, don't skimp out on the suspension. You will just regret it later, so do it right the first time!
Looking forward to see it done SW. Keep us updated.

starting with a car as CLEAN as this one doesnt hurt either, when you dont have to waste weeks doin rust repair and metal work, the body and paint goes pretty fast.

Not really, this is the same guy/shop that painted my T/A and the Camaro. He gets alot of work from this area, all my company work and all my referals. About 60% of the cars in his shop are my customers. He is very fair with me on price plus, we are friends. This car will be just like the Camaro, painted by him and assembled by me..It's not the same for me if I can't be involved with the build..

Frank first off, I want to thank you for all your input. I got a really nice "deal" from the guys at Global West. They were really nice to deal with. The motor has been built, 351W billet crank, H-beam rods, Weisco pistons, ported Edlebrock Vr. heads, custom ground cam, Victor jr. intake, 750 demon carb, Keisler 5spd conversion, DTS locker rear end with rear disc ect.

After building the T/A and the Camaro, building a Ford is alot different...

Wow.... I cant believe I just found this thread now. We are building a '69 Convertible G-Machine for a customer now. We've had it in our possesion for 1 month now and our client just called and increased the budget by 25k. So I had to redesign the car and add alot of great things that werent originally called out in the design. Its in the demolition stages now and as soon as the new design rendering is completed, I'll post it. I'll be interesting to see exactly how similar they will be because the '69 is a rare breed.

This has a point thats relevant.. so bear with me.

ok, im 23. i have experience with cars as i come from a family thats been building them for years. pro-touring is a perfect match for me as i love all the new technology.. including the import cars.. but i have a soft spot for the muscle cars i grew up working on here in the south. plus theres just something about big cubes. anyway.. i had a good career path going with an auto parts chain. but it didnt seem to make me happy. im a salesmen i feel thats my calling but the things i want in life.. well.. 40k a year was probably not going to cut it. my gf.. who im sure i will marry in the next few is a photographer.. could be money.. maybe tough for her.. but i still envy her, because she loves what she does everyday. its hard to make a great living at cars. and then im on supraforums reading some threads one day and it hits me. You should do what you love in life. but maybe thats not where you work. I told a friend.. my new theory.. if you cant do what you love for a living.. make sure what you do for a living allows you to do what you love. long story short im back in school, studying business as i now have gained an "in" with a major Medical supplies company. Should be great money, a little travel, and i get to meet and talk to all kinds of cool people.

the point here is.. my inspiration came from SW. his threads on supraforums. Because I met him once.. and he probably wont remember when i rode with close friends chris parvin and Theresa out to texas for a supra meet two or three years back and he is the nicest guy ever. and its hard to be a nice guy in a supra crowd. his cars make people want to build equally nice cars. im sure just like everything else you have built.. the mustang will be amazing. and thanks for the inspiration !!

Ps- im currently trying to put together a early 70s trans-am/firebird.. a car i would never thought id like to build until i saw sw's. and this one.. unlike the mopar.. is for me.
