I would like to know what the group thinks is the best way to run the main cable. I keep going back and forth on the under vs inside. Please provide your ideals and pictures if you have any. Thanks in advance.

In side it will be better protected, but you'll need a grommet or bulkhead to go through the body. I'm running mine inside the car personally. That's how GM does it on new cars with the trunk mounted batteries.

+1 for inside, for mine I placed the battery on the passenger side in the rear, ran the 1/0 along the passenger Side of the transmission and passed it through a grommet close to the starter. charge wire runs through a seperate grommet from alternator back to the battery via the drivers side of the tunnel.
Curious, what's the thinking behind running a separate charge wire from the alternator to the battery?

It’s usually done only when a solenoid is placed in the trunk to make the battery to started lead hot only during cranking.

I appreciate the replies. I have always ran it under the car. I may go the inside route this time.

I ran mine inside as well using a bulk head to pass thru into the engine compartment. On a First Gen there's a nice little ledge that seems perfect for running the cables and bulkhead. I admittedly stole the idea for mine from pics on DSE's project updates page!

Agree with all above
I ran my 1/0 “navy strand” cables inside under carpeting along outer edge on passenger side and grommeted firewall at starter location.
Curious if you are running fuel injection?
If you are, try to keep your EMF sensitive fuel injection wiring to the battery separated from other wiring.

I'd go inside.
You can hit the "you pull-it" junk yard and grab the LX cars' battery bulkhead connector in the passenger footwell. Super nice, high current, OE quality piece. If your feeling extra energetic, pull out the cable while your at it. It's a high quality cable and ends you can get for next to nothing.

Which LX cars?

Which LX cars?
All of them, Magnum, Charger, 300, and Challenger.
Perfect I love this idea. Have you done this in the past and know which is the best length for a first gen?
Thank you!
