View Full Version : X-pipe mounting
Hello all,
I'm very close to getting the exhaust done, and I would like some thoughts on mounting an x-pipe the same way Blake did on his 72 nova.

I saved the same picture of Blake's nova to duplicate the exhaust set up on my camaro. Looks like a tight fit tho. Mock it up and move the rear suspension around without springs to check for clearance.

I’m more concerned with mounting the x pipe they way he did. I don’t want to restrict flow/hurt hp and tq

Sorry I meant to put x pipe as I was looking at the exhaust...... I meant the x pipe looks like a tight fit.

I seriously doubt any negative effect on power would be great enough for you to notice. The effect on the sound of the exhaust system by not having the balance pipe would be greater. That's just me though. I don't like the sound of dual exhaust without a balance pipe.
You can always go with an H pipe if that would be easier.

Funny, I'm exactly the opposite. I hate the sound of an X-pipe dual exhaust.

Here's how we're doing mine with the BMR torque arm... only way to get an X-pipe to fit between the trans cross member and the front mount for the torque arm.

I'm no engineer and I didn't even stay at Holiday Inn but I think all those cars with sideways Xpipes would make more power and sound better with a simple H pipe.
Change my mind.

I had a 3" X pipe on my first gen, I installed a SpeedTech torque arm this Spring, I went with a 3" H pipe. with the same Magnaflow mufflers the change in sound was very obvious to me. The X pipe had a smoother sound and had more of a howl at rpm, the H pipe is choppier more of a muscle car sound I guess, but still sounds good. I liked the X pipe sound better but the custom install wasn't worth it to me.

Hey guys I had the guy who did my exhaust do a dual cross over style with the Speedtech torque arm setup. Was a fair bit of work but he got it done. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190727/0876ddca744071454ac52c1c1e96d690.jpg

That looks like a chambered muffler on it's own, wish I could hear it with and without mufflers.
Here is scrapes nova with tci torque arm

I’m not sure if they are chambered or not. All I can tell you is that they are packed with ‘acoustic wool’ .
How can you tell that they are chambered? I just asked for mufflers and paid the bill :EmoteClueless:
