I am one of few foreigners on this forum, living across the Atlantic from your point of view. Stockholm in Sweden is my town.
I started my motorinterest very young, remember buying my first Hot Rod magazine at ten. Went to study mechanical engineering because I could benefit from that when working on cars. Got interested in dragracing at 16 and started to build my first car at 18. It was going to be a ProStock, took about four years to complete mostly because of shortage in funds and raising the expectations over the time. When it was ready it had a potent 331 CSB, 4-speed Lenco, Strange Ford 9-inch and Strange McPherson struts, all state of the art stuff. That went on for a couple of years reaching it peak with a sponsorship from Toyota building a brandnew Celica Prostocker in 1983. We moved the stuff from the old car to the Celica but got two Pat Musi destroked CBB engines. During this time I ahd my own importing company selling stuff from Strange engineering and Weld Wheels among others. Look at my site for details on those racecars.
Then life changed for Jan, woman and kids. Hard to combine with racing so I decided to get a normal job and be a good father. The mother wasn't that good so I kicked her out a few years later and raised my son and doughter myself for 15 years.
When they got older I could start playing again and I bought my Camaro in August of 2000.
And for a living I now run my own company as an consultant in the graphic industry. Working with printshops and training them to print better. Doing seminars and so on. Its a good thing and I have a good time, a good woman but right now a shortage in time to spend on my Camaro.
Long story but I have had a great life so far and been through a lot of experiences. Enjoying the cameradship on this great site.
Interesting to know what people do.

Hey everyone, well...I'm Tony for those who don't know me yet. I live in Chesterfield Township, Michigan (about 20 miles outside D-town). I am a Senior Designer for General Motors and I build mathmatical surface for all of GM's cars and trucks. I work closely with the Engineers at the Vehicle Engineering Center and with the Stylist's and Modelers in the Studios at Design Center. Basically...I take the clay surface and turn it into something real. I work on a system called 'Unigraphics' which is GM's primary CAD system. I was born in Detroit but grew up in the suburbs. Outside of cars my other interest is fishing. I am an avid pursuer of King Salmon on the Great Lakes and Musky on Lake St. Clair (the greatest sport fishing lake in the country...in my opinion, anyway). I own a 20 foot Trophy outfitted with downriggers and have competed in several tournaments. When I'm not doing that I'm either on the ice with some friends playing hockey or staring at my 2 and 7 off-suit at the poker table and deciding whether to bluff or not. I have 2 boys (3 and 5) and the rest of my time is spent with them. Or hiding from the wife. :D

Hi guys, (I know some of you from Team Camaro.)
Let's see there was the original. Then the style change and now the new and improved version. Congrats to Scott and contributors for bringing this to such a high standard.
Age? I'm old (48) but only feel old towards the end of the week. A single Martini Friday night works wonders.
My wife and I have a '69 Camaro that we've been working on. It has finally gotten to the point where it's due to be torn down for body and paint and final assembly. To get us through the hardships of paint prison, we bought a 2000 Camaro SS drop top. Loads of fun but that depleted the car resto-cash-bucket for a full year.
I've worked at three major computer companies and never had to move my desk. (Buy outs.) I work in the HPC space and still after all these years, enjoy my job.
That said, spark plugs are my passion.

Hi, I'm Tom, 34, and I live in Orange County, CA. I worked for a small computer security company for 5 years who was just bought by McAfee. I have liked cars for a long time, but growing up the most complicated tool my dad had was a crescent wrench. So, luckily when I bought my '67 RS at 18 we moved next to a guy who repaired UPS trucks for 20+ years and I was able to borrow his breaker bar to remove my head bolts :) Anyway, I sold the '67 and got a '95 Z28, then had to trade that in on a minivan (sad day) since we needed it to get our two girls (now 4 and 7) around. I bought my '68 about a year ago and have been on a crazy spending/thrashing spree to get it done. :willy: I hope I survive, and if I do then I will owe a lot of people on this site my thanks  :hail:

My name is Eric, and i live in Santa Ynez, CA (near Santa Barbara). I am the Manager of Marketing and Product Development at Pacific Design Technologies, Inc (PDT) in Santa Barbara. We manufacture high-end cooling systems for space and aerospace. We designed the cooling system for the Mars Rover Program that cooled the spacecraft/flight electroncs as if flew to Mars. We didn't land on Mars as we were on the cruise-stage. We hope to be on the next Rover (in 2008) and actually be on Mars!
I am the proud owner of two 62 Novas: 2-dr coupe and a convertible. I have lots of parts in the garage (crate motor, 700R4, Heidt's clip, Hot-Rods-to-Hell rear suspension, etc) that will go on the coupe. Hope fully I will be able to start working on the cars this summer!
Great site here.... as well as great people. Maybe I can meet some of you at SEMA this year.

Jeff here...
Originally from Detroit, MI- had some great years there. Worked for Holbrook, March, Roush, Turbo engineering during HS and college. Got tired of working two jobs (one an unpaid internship) and college, so I joined the navy. Been around the world several times over, done lotsa things. As of '99, I now fly P-3s for the Navy (was enlisted for 12 yrs before that). Currently in Jacksonville, FL. Plan on opening a dyno/EFI shop here in NE FL in a couple years (oh happy day- 1st retirement).
Project is a 68 Firebird Sprint (inline 6). Yup- a six. It's turbo'd, DFI'd, Juiced & is very light. The chassis & stuff are (I guess) typical PT stuff- DSE front, mini's in the rear, big brakes. I've done over 30 1st gens over the years & have a 68 RS/SS Camaro w/BBC, so it was time to do something different.

I am 30 and have loved taking things apart since I was a child. My dad told me when I was eleven I could have his truck (jokingly). It was a 71 Ford. I took him serious and decided I would restore it. I stripped the body down to the cab and chassis. He came home from work and freaked out!!! I have owned all types of makes and models and now have narrowed my focus to curves and freeway speeds or better. Just sold a 2000 ls1 ss in jan. Still have a 5.0 coupe project in limbo. I was a supervisor for the railroad in Cincinnatti and lived in independence KY. I was promoted to South Carolina and worked 70-90 hr weeks. I have a 2 yr old son and a 4 month old daughter, a loving and supportive wife. We made the decision for me to step down and moved back here to Douglas Ga. We have been so Blessed by God. I work less and we have so much more. Currently I do welding on the rail for Csx in this area which is one of the busiest Core routes in the south. From 58-90 freight trains a day move through this area. I look forward to getting another Malibu project and running it on a road racing course for fun. My son is only two but I am already enjoying involving him with the wrenches. One funny story. On the coupe Iwas making hammer adjustments on the core support and later I looked up to see him with the hammer at the pass door. I caught him before he hit anything but he definately wants to do as I do. He has been to the dragstrip from the age of 4 months. I was involved with latemodel auto salvage on the internet but choosing poor business partnerships ended that. Hoping to get involved again on the business side at some point. I enjoy the honesty and maturity on this website and the quality of the car builds I see.

I've been around here for a bit, mostly just admiring some of the awesome cars being built and planning one of my own.
I'm 25, no PT car but have a pretty clean 01' Viper and a big diesel pickup  Live in Newport Beach, CA. Have a degree in Mech Engineering but really haven't put it to much use :willy: I quit a stable 9-5 about a year ago to start a business with a friend and that has completely drained me, but it's been an awesome learning experience.
note: If you ever think about starting a biz that has anything to do with alcohol production, DON'T! Working with the gov't is a nightmare, and after that you get to play with the sharks (aka billion $$$ empires).
And before we even get product into production it looks like that venture may be bought up by another company. :( Not so much by choice, but what can ya do.
So now we're looking into the next phase. Likely turning towards realestate developement and high end interior fixtures etc. Ever seen a hand layed carbon fiber sink, or counter top :unibrow:
I'm also do free lance design work for a few high performance shops. (Twin turbo systems, custom intercoolers, and the like)
Oh and anyone local hiring? I'm semi-looking for a regular job till I recover from the last stint. :faint:

I definitely want to see it sometime. I've got so many questions for you.. What grade are you in? When will your nova be done? What car shows do you plan on taking it to? Hi – Great to see other Canadians here. My wife and I operate custom car shop called Remuda Coaches Inc in Nova Scotia, we build customs, hot rods and choppers. I am a racer though and though, I started in road racing in the early 80’s and raced both GT2 & GT1 – then switched to stock cars in the mid 90’s. I enjoy building and racing cars as well as building and driving hot rods – so much to do so little time.
My hat is off to all the talented people on this site, some of the work is beautiful and I enjoy going though the projects with my morning coffee admiring the workmanship. If any you folks decide on a real long rod run and find yourself in Nova Scotia please stop by the shop.

I'm not a real gynecologist, but I play one in the toolshed....
Hey... Brian here, and I'm a Project and Marketing Manager for an off-road fab and accessories shop... Trying like hell to get my side business for vehicle/graphic and web design pulled into a full-time gig.
Recently relocated to NC for wife's job, which means flying back and forth to AZ too often... Will probably just move back!
Been into cars my entire life, always wrenching on something either with my dad or friends, and looking forward to sharing that with my three boys (yeah, three boys. Think "quiet time", then imagine my house. ), and that has put our project car time on hold for a bit. Yet, the two elder kids (7 and 9) have been saving Birthday and Christmas money to put towards their own ride... I'm assuming the thought is to forgo college, and just build a car that can get me to the old folks home quicker....
I've extremely fortunate to have met some great people in the industry, and am just amazed at the quality of people in this community.

I'm Doug.
I live about smack dab in the middle of Minnesota(Little Falls).
I've been working as a machinist/fabricator/jack of all trades for 20 yrs.
Mostly custom one off designed machines, but have done plastic injection molding, production, repair shop and tool and die.
Went to school for automotive machining and worked at a local Napa for a few years and also building late model, sprint car, dirt track engines at a race shop about an hour from here.
I'm real close to going my own direction with the machining/fab work and may start building a 'bolt-in' chassis for 64-72 GM A-bodies.
Still working on a 65 Chevelle SS(13 yrs.)
Family, house and what not keep me from doing as much as I'd like, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.
I'll be the big 40 in about two weeks and I've been married for darn near 14 of those and have three great kids.(13,11 and 10)
Anywho, its good to know the background of who your talking to when you sign in here.
Everyone take care and keep it between the white lines.
Anything powered by gasoline or alcohol and designed to go over the speed limit is OK with me!!! (go karts to unlimited racing airplanes, and anywhere in between)

This is a cool thread. lots o cool sounding jobs. Some of you guys probably use the stuff we make. I'm Rubens, just outside of Chicago, and am a manufacturing engineer at Honeywell Analytics (formerly Zellweger Analytics, and before that MDA Scientific). We manufacture toxic gas monitoring equipment used in the semi-conductor, gas and oil industries, and anywhere else gas detection is needed for life safety or process control. I've been on the manufacturing end now for about 5 years, and was in R&D for 12 years before that. No wife, no kids, no GF...just spend all my money on my 10 dependents known as cars.
