View Full Version : Did I put the wrong style power steering cooler on the car?

I had this cooler laying around.

Its a Rolls Royce with a Dodge Viper V10 in a 2nd gen camaro frame with a Saginaw AGR power steering box.

I plumbed it in the return line with 3/8 tubing. The high pressure line is 8AN

I tried 3 pumps and they are all super noisy and blow power steering fluid out of the vented cap.

I see a lot of the coolers use the tube and fin style and not the reservoir style. Is that what's causing the problem?

Do I need to change the pressure valve in the pump?

I'm stumped.

Thanks!

Sounds like your boiling the fluid. Do you have a remote reservoir on it? Hydroboost maybe?

Standard plastic reservoir on pump, no hydroboost.

If your tracking the car, you will need more cooler than that, and probably more capacity to help dissipate the heat. Shouldn't need -8 line. -6 should be plenty.

definitely need more cooler. That one you have really isn't doing much at all.

I recently picked up this one from Summit. Would this be big enough for weekend autocross and the occasional HPDE? I’m running hydroboost as well.

There are those with electric fans as well.
