A buddy of mine is parting out his 1978 'Maro pro-touring build.

He has a t56 magnum with less than approx. 1,000 miles on said transmission that I'm looking to buy.

He originally bought it new from Jegs back in 2013. If I remember correctly...with the bell housing, shifter relocation bracket and all other associated parts (transmission cross member, shifter, etc.)...the total came to around +$6,000 shipped.

New t56 magnums from Jegs (not including shipping, taxes nor other associated parts) sell for $3,200 and are rated at 700hp.

I'm very confident his transmission hasn't been beat on and the 1,000 mile number is accurate. I know the car well and helped him install the thing. Heck, we even cut the trans. tunnel together.

Is $2,000 a fair offer for the trans and shifter? I have zero interest in the bell housing and I live down the street so shipping isn't a concern.

Going in to a 76 T/A with a DSE front sub frame with an Ls7.

I'd say if he paid close to 6k then he purchased the whole kit(or a super magnum, or upgraded magnum), which is still available at jegs($5200 or so). $3200 gets you just the transmission and nothing else.
I'd say if he's willing to take $2000 then you better take him out for dinner too.
I'm currently in the market for one and their prices are solid, resale on used transmissions, even 10+ years old are holding value. it's ridiculous what they cost these days.

If he is your buddy, you should offer him a little more than 2K

Not trying to be funny at all and mean this in a very respectful way, but is this even a discussion for $2k?
