Need some help from any of the Chevelle guys on here,I am putting an LS9 with a 6L90 in a 71 Chevelle and was wondering if any one could tell me how much I need to cut the tunnel or does anyone offer a raised tunnel like what's offered for the Camaro, thanks for any help.

I wish I could offer something, but I’m a t56. Which for the record, does not fit and requires a full tunnel re-do.

I've never seen a new tranny tunnel for an auto but Speedtech offers one for a t56 . My advice , trim fit trim fit trim fit ,until it finds its way home

A 6L80 is a larger trans than a T56 or TKO and much taller so a little more trimming will be necessary. A lower profile trans pan from a Pontiac G8 is highly recommended, too.

Here's a 6L80 install in a 64 Chevelle.

Pontiac G8 pan does not fit a 6L90E. Options are the truck pan and CTS-V pan as far as I know and they are only slightly different. Not sure about the ZL1 Camaro pan. Raising the trans high enough to get decent pan clearance may lead to fitment issues with long tube headers. At least it did for me when I installed a 6L90E in my 69 Camaro.

How about a trans tunnel from a 5th or 6th gen Camaro. cut it out and use what you need from it. Just a thought.

Thanks for the correction, Don. I'm considering a 6L80 swap and was told a G8 pan would work. Didn't realize the 6L90 pan was different.

My 70 has stainless mid-length headers so hopefully that won't be an issue.

PML is looking at building low-profile pans for the 6L90 so they may be an option. https://www.yourcovers.com/transpan_11036.php
Here's a Note from them: "Cadillac CTS-V, 2009 to 2015, and some new CTS and Camaro ZL1 models have the 6L90 transmission. This pan will fit the transmission but is probably too deep to maintain clearance. We are considering a low profile, stock capacity pan for the 6L90."

Thanks to all of you guys for this help, looks like I will do just as recommended and trim until it fits,I will check into the low profile pan.

I have a '09 CTS-V oil pan and baffle that I've been lazy about posting in the for sale section. $150 shipped?

Thanks,I am leaving the dry sump oil pan on it but trans. pan sure needs to be shallower.

I think your best option for a shallow pan is to graft together a CTS-V pan and a G8 pan.

Below's a link to the Speedtech Chevelle Cover. At the very bottom of the page is instructions that may give you a better idea if it'll work or not. One nice thing is that it goes the length of the tunnel so it will give you plenty of room for a raised drive shaft and proper pinion angle too. It also includes a panel that goes in the trunk for ExtReme chassis frame rail clearance but isn't necessary with a factory frame. Unfortunately we don't sell the kit without this panel. Photos on our web page show it installed in a 69 GTO. Click Here (http://www.speedtechperformance.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=638/category_id=81/mode=prod/prd638.htm) for the Chevelle tunnel kit.

If you only needed the front piece that goes directly above the trans you can buy the Camaro one, it's similar only the Camaro doesn't need the front firewall portion, the rest of the tunnel behind the trans and the rear trunk portions so it's less $. Click Here (http://www.speedtechperformance.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=512/category_id=30/mode=prod/prd512.htm) for Camaro Tunnel cover.

The Camaro tunnel cover can raise the height of the tunnel upwards of 3.5". The Chevelle cover will raise the tunnel upwards of 6". Now supposing our tunnel cover isn't tall enough, it may make more sense to get it anyway and fill the gaps along the bottom sides between the cover and the car's tunnel with sheet metal instead of rebuilding the whole tunnel from scratch? I don't have a diagram with measurements for the Chevelle cover parts yet. For the dimensions for the Camaro cover Click Here (http://www.speedtechperformance.com/pdf/Extreme_Camaro_Tun_Cov_dimensions.pdf) I'll post it here when I get measurements for the Chevelle cover.

Good luck with it and feel free to contact us with any questions!

Lots of people online are always asking questions about modifying the tunnel. I'll tell them about your tunnel products now, Ben.
