Sweet! I was thinking though, instead of the V-6, why not a nice version of the inline 6 as found in the trucks? An RS version with the I6, performance suspension, etc might make a nice "poor-man's" BMW M3 (like the last gen M3).

Only problem is finding a way to get 300+ hp natrually aspirated... bmw does it with 8500rpm, dohc, individual throttle per cylinder etc, all of which would make it super costly to build, and putting a power adder on would increase the weight and price to v8 territory...

And ill take a v8 camaro over a m3 any day, zero torque, annoying clutch, okay the interior is lightyears ahead of any american car but id still rather pay 20k less for a faster car.

I've heard they'll offer a V6 and two V8s and a choice of stick or auto. Beyond that is pure speculation. I'm hoping for the 303 hp 5.3 with DOD so I can use it as a daily driver and have some fun without going broke on fuel cost. I'll take mine in black with red interior!

See, now that would work well too... My only concern on the V6 is that they don't exactly sound real nice. I have a Pontiac SSEi, and while I love the reasonable power and great economy (30mpg highway) it kinda sounds like something out of an industrial chipper. Still, if they will do the DOD and keep economy up, it would make a great daily driver!

Good points! Though I can't say I don't like the power delivery or the clutch. The one I drove was smooth and shifted very nicely. Plus, the BMW 6 is 3.? liters, yes? Isn't the Chevy 6 4.?? liters? Should be easier to get close to that 300hp mark, and with DOD still keep good economy. Maybe they can use the inline on the Pontiac version (ok, so I am dreaming here) like the old Sprint6!

Because the vehicle is being packaged around the V8. The V8 has four cylinders longitudinally. I6 obviously has 6. Adding a clylinder to the length of the engine automatically pushes everything forward 100mm which means the I6 would move everything forward 200mm. This of course must be made up in either the wheelbase of the vehicle or it's front overhang which eventually impacts the vehicle's overall length. 200mm might not seem like much but you add that to the concept vehicle in the wheelbase or on the nose and you're going to notice it right away. It's a safe bet that that wouldn't fly with Styling.

well if anybody wants to trade my I6 out of my Cherokee for their LS6 or 7, I would have no problems. You can actually make alot of power on stock internals of inline motors as opposed to V series because the pistons are all pulling in the same direction and not against each other.

Great points, Tony. The styling on the car is brilliant and I wouldn't mess with an inch of it, especially adding an ugly overhang. Thanks for the insider explanation.
I knew I was dreaming but that I6 is such a cool motor, I'd love to see it pumped up a little and put in a performance application because they already make 280 in a plain jane Trail Blazer.
That's a computer adjustment from 300 N/A hp.

Agreed- The 06 4.2's make 291hp stock, with a torque curve flatter than Florida. These engines are basically a large-displacement Ecotec, although they have different lineage (they do share valvetrain components). 300hp in Camaro-tune would be no sweat. But, as stated- they just wont fit without a bigger compromise than they are willing to make. Bummer.

Mine is going to make north of 850hp with a stock (mod'd) crank. There are Comp Elim guys running these with carbs making 550-600 N/A hp, spinng 8600-9Krpm.

But I'm biased...

Those I5's aren't bad motors either. I drove my neighbors Colorado the other day and I was impressed with the torque and performance. My wife has an I6 in her trailblazer. That too runs real good.

The bad thing about the camaro is that as it sits now it is on a CTS chassis and GM is being required to redesign it because of poor crash test rating. The Camaro will come out but the current suspension and driveline will change and knowing Gm the body as well.
