First excuse me if I muck up posting these pictures, I'm trying out Image Shack
I have a question I got this alternator with my LSA connect and cruise kit, it has 3 posts in the connector but the harness came with a 2 pin connector. I read that the new alternators are more like generators in the way they work and that is what is on the tag for the Alt. it says Gen. I'm trying to figure which alternator is supposed to be with my kit. I send an E mail to the dealer I bought it at, but figured I would check here.
Difference in alt to connector.

i just checked my LSA (connect and cruise) alternator and mine has 4 pins, i haven't opened the harness yet so i don't know if they match up.

That's what happened to me I never looked at both together to notice the difference. I was at the Chevy dealer today for some parts and asked if he could check the C&C kit to see what alternator they recommended, he said he didn't have access to the performance catalog. Go figure!

LSA Connect and cruise instructions state that the use of the alternator control is optional and then they toss in this warning:
NOTE: If you are using the Chevrolet Performance or production LSA generator DO NOT plug in the generator control wire into the generator. This will result in the generator defaulting to only an 8 volt output above 3000 RPM.
I think you will be better off using the alternator you have and wiring in the appropriate plug. Holley sells one if you are unsure what plug to get.

Thanks Don. The instructions for the E Rod are very different from mine.

Memory is fuzzy but I went through this last fall.
You got the right alternator for the kit but it won't work with that (GMPP) ECM as that alternator needs a PWM signal in order to regulate voltage.
GMPP solution of leave it unplugged and it will run at 13v was not acceptable to me.
We used a AC Delco 25766345 alternator for a 05-07 CTSV and wired that to the ecm and it charges at 14.6v It has the same connector as your current alternator but only 2 pins in the middle.

Pretty sure the alternator wiring is the same...

I agree Don.
What size wire are you guys using for the charge wire to the Batt.

I used the wire that came with my AAW Classic update kit. Not sure of the gauge.

I hadn't looked in my AAW harness box for so long, I forgot it was in there.:bang:
Thanks for reminding me it was there.
I called GM Performance today and tried to get through but when I put my customer # in it didn't recognize it and wouldn't let me through. Maybe someone who got theirs more recently could get through.

I got in touch with GM today they told me to get a Metri pack 150 4 pin connector and put the wire from my harness in the B slot and plug it in . He said that's all it needs. When I told him the story about the Alt and plug difference he put me on hold and when he came back that was his reply. He sent me an e mail with a schematic and picture of the connector and told me to ignore the schematic.
I'll try to post it tomorrow.

Don,
I am just trying to wrap my head around this...and maybe follow GM logic...So the harness has a 2 pin connector, but are you saying that the ECU is not set up for PWM alternator control?
Why would they install the 2 pin connector?

The two pin connector only has one terminal in it which they said, put it in the B slot and plug it in were his exact words.

So it sounds like GM messed up the connector and really should have installed the older style 4 pin connector. My GMPP kit that I got back in 2008 has a 4 pin connector but only one wire is in it (B slot...L terminal).
You may be able to remove the terminal from the 2 pin connector and slide it into the 4 pin connector that you get from Holley. Those Metripack 150 connectors (assuming the 2 pin is also a MP 150) should use the same terminals.

That's what I was going to do, but it's about 2' too long so I'll shorten it to clean it up. I guess they make it that long in case your using the lower alternator location. Mine is on top.
Here's the number for GM power train and Performance 866 453412

Wayne,
I am pretty sure that I have the terminals for the 4 pin plug. I know I used some to add a wire to that connector on the S terminal. If you want, I can send you a few of the terminals...provided you have the right crimping tool.

Thanks Andrew I got the terminals I'll be doing that in the next couple of days. Thank you!
