69 Camaro, how much fender clearance to turn?

As the title states how much fender to tire clearance is needed to be able to turn the wheels all the way left to right?

Great question AJ. I have seen cars with less than an .75" that I thought would rub and didn't. MHO, I think it depends on track width, ride height, chassis torsional rigidity, spring and sway bar rate, spindle and wheel flex, sidewall height, maybe even scrub radius? etc. In other words, vehicle dependent.

lol thanks for the help, Ron. Based on what I have currently I can tell you that 1/2" isn't enough at my ride height.

I mean, worst case I could always steer with the throttle right? Just one of the obstacles I'm working on trying to overcome with putting this C5 frame in my car. Actually this is my only real problem so I'm ok with that.

The only way to know is align the suspension at ride height, remove the springs disconnect the swaybar and cycle the suspension. Then cut roll and pull until the tire has nothing sharp to rub on.

That's the problem, I don't know what offset wheels I need yet and I'm trying to figure out how much clearance I'm going to need to be able to turn. The suspension is in and close to the right alignment with no springs or sway bars and I can only turn maybe a few degrees. I already have Anvil carbon fenders that are 1.5" wider on each side and I don't really want cut them up if I don't have to.

There is enough room to get your fingers between the fender and tire. This is a 245 tire on a 17x8.5 rim, I need a 18x11 with a 315 in there lol. The offset of the 18x11 is enough to move the wheel in 12mm though so with the brake rotor on I'll only gain an extra 1/4" from where I'm at now.

In thar pic it doesn't look like you have much, if any negative camber. I would try to get around 1 degree of negative camber and see how it looks.

It's just the angle, there is right about -2 degrees right now. I like to run aggressive alignments on my vettes so it will end up around -2.5 when I'm done.

I just checked the clearances to my Anvil fenders and it is roughly 1.25". 285 tire on a 10" wheel. Art Morrison subframe.

What subframe do you have?

If that is proposed ride height, you are going to need all the backspaces.

Just measured mine, about 1.5" clearance at ride height.

AME subframe, 6.9" BS, -2.5 camber.

Well, about that, I have a C5 Corvette frame :lol: I am running carbon anvil fenders though so thats an extra 1.5" per side thats helped a ton so far.

I know its going to be close no matter what I do so I may need to cut into the fenders and get a little more bulge to clear. typical, always lacking in the bulge haha
