My grandpa bought the car brand new and my dad bought it from him. My dad blew the motor racing on his first date with my mom :bitchslap: and the car has been sitting ever since. My father passed away at 45yrs old and so it was passed onto to me at a young age. The car sat while I was in college and about 3 years ago I decided to do a basic rebuild and get her going again. However, things quickly changed and somehow I started building a full on pro touring car.
I was not raised around cars and knew hardly anything about them when I first started. I have taught myself everything I've done so far, thank god for Later-g because without the write ups, pictures, and people answering my random questions I'd be lost. With that said please don't expect perfection as I am new to this "car building" thing and I'm sure many things could've been done better and faster but that's the perks to learning new stuff. The hardest part so far is the lack of mentor to really ask questions and also I've done everything myself so not having an extra set of hands at times was a major pain (rollcage and motor/trans install)

I lost all of the my pics from the first 2 years of building the car :( so most all the pics are within the last couple months. The car was mostly rust free minus the driver/passenger floor board, the rear tail panel, and rust in the front/rear window channels. I also added DSE Speed kit 3 front end, mini tubs, and sub-frame connectors. I found Glink rear-end locally for a great deal but I really wish I would've passed it up and got a DSE rear end. I made a roll cage for the car which was super challenging (probably the hardest thing so far) I also added Moser 12-bolt. My next big purchase was the LS3 525 crate motor, 6 speed T-56 Mag with all the upgraded goodies.

Next up I bought some GTO seats off Craigslist. Took a bunch of fab work to get them to fit nicely but eventually I got them done. After the rears were installed I ordered some Carbeau LG1 seats and the Corbeau seat brackets. NOT a fan of the Carbeau seat brackets all, nearly impossible to get the bolts tight. I cannot get a wrench or socket onto the rear bolts, the frame opening is just way too small, I'll probably modify these eventually.
I wanted to eliminate the foot e-brake so I purchased a Lokar hand brake and cables and mounted it where it belongs. Since I am running a full center console I figured Id try and hide the cables best I could and run them mostly inside the car. Once I had the design in my head the rest was pretty simple mounting them to my Willwood rears.

As of today I am working on getting the GMPP motor harness cut to length and hidden the best I can. Still struggling trying to figure out where I want to come through the firewall so that I can mount my ECU and fuse box in the glove or under the dash. I also made some brackets and relocated the stock coils. Purchased an MSD LS sprak plug wire kit so that I can start routing my plug wires and cut them to the specific length I need. So far so good, but the wiring is the most intimidating aspect of this build to me. Mating the GMPP to the AAW harness while adding power windows/doorlocks, dual fans, Ricks stainless vaporworx tank ect is a bit above my head LOL

Very cool project! Your metal repair pics bring back memories of some of the rust repair I had to do on my car, too

Build looks great. It's awesome that you're tackling the project head on!
